I noticed that Bit-tech.net has a review on Silent Hunter 5. I pasted the link here, but I have not read it yet. I'll take a look at it later this evening.
Woozers! The reviewer righteously hammered the title somethin' fierce.

Especially the ending bit on page 2.
When someone recommends a previous game in the series (SH4) or a movie (Das Boot) as a better choice than SH5, it gives a big impression that there is something horribly wrong with SH5.

Back the the subject of SH5 apparently being poor in its stock form...

I wonder if SH5 is working just as Ubisoft planned...
It's part of an odd theory.
That they are going to do with SH5 what they did with SH4 (release as buggy, not patch much, just enough to keep people interested, make a final patch only be part of an expansion that adds a lot of stuff and 'expands' the game, and then drop support in general after they get their second surge of income... or something like that, all while the Devs cry at what is being done or not allowed to be done with their work.)

Anyways, back on topic... again...
Even if only half the stuff from the OP are correct, it is still a few to many down sides for my tastes.

Looks like I am still sticking with SH3/SH4 for now. (to heck with graphics and eye-candy. I think I would prefer my old DOS, SNES and Sega Genesis games rather than try SH5 at this point... or worse, dig out Submarine Titans...)

I think right now I'd rather dig out Command Aces of Deep, than invest on SH5... Damn, I loved Aces of Deep.

So, I think I'll stick with my SH III with NYGM 3.0. My old rig would not like eye-candy that much anyway.

Default This is the worst game I have ever bought.

Hi people and sorry for such a negative way to introduce myself...and leave.

But SH 5 is without doubt the most disappointing rip-off, cow pat universe of a poopy game I have ever paid my pension money for.

It really is that bad.

Ubisoft's new generation of children have taken a brilliant (if flawed) WWII sub sim and totally ruined it.

It really is that bad.

How could these young guns take such an epic grasp of WWII u-boat warfare and do such a travesty of the atmosphere, interface, indeed everything, including the graphics? (The crew from SH3 moved me..these new clowns of a crew make me want to join the Royal Navy). You had the gold already and went with the bronze, fools.

I spent over $90 of my pension money on this cow-pat universe of ****e and as a result forwent a new battery for my little 19 foot sailing boat.

True.

This is the last Ubisoft game I ever buy, you crooks.

From an old salt.

Also, after I deleted this piece of robbery I played SH-3 (grey wolves...thank you people here so much) one last time. Then I deleted the lot and went sailing without a motor.

Welcome aboard! And hey, no need to leave if you don't like one game, there's plenty more here to stick around for.

Ok El Sid, your post is obviously a venting one, and you're very angry. I feel your pain.
That's why I always read reviews before buying. SH5 is getting nothing but 5 out of 10s and 2 out 5 stars etc... That's enough to stay well clear (for the moment).
Don't throw your copy in the trash! In a couple of years it will probably be a very good sim.
