I know how you feel Neal.
Sometimes we should never go back and try and live our earlier memories.
Although I still play deus ex at 1920x1200 with supersampling on.
Still looks great in my eyes.

No one is picking the eye candy, it's the bugs and functionality that wreck the game, plus OSP/DRM!!

Yeah, it's pretty sweet. Funny how much they can improve stuff like this, when I thought at the time SH3 was pretty darn close to perfect, visually. You know, it's a joy after 10 minutes of transiting the North Sea at 512x, to drop out of TC and switch from the map to the bridge... still impresses me every time.

No Kiddin! I'll have to cave in and buy it at some point.

The graphics are impressive the gameplay could be better and with egg on my face that DRM is a bast*rd! My internet is not good at running this game where i can't play it without timeouts disconnections. Waiting for Ubisoft to put out a offline patch... I don't get this time-out disconnections bullsh*t with blizzard servers, Battlefield, or any other online game but with SH5 its terrible. Ubisoft need to look at Blizzard and see how well they have done it. Even Starcraft 2 multiplayer beta which im playing atm and is a singleplayer game where we will have to be online like sh5 runs smooth as a babys bottom! No timeouts, no crashes just smooth gameplay.

Silent hunter 5 is another matter. This game has fallen from grace. It is not only not a fun game, not only can you not do the things it wants you to do like climb ladders and select dialog in many aspects, but the graphic intensity is ridiculous.

In Silent hunter 4, I could add every option in the graphics and my Intel i7 processor would have it working like water. Also, it would show in 1980x1080 because I have an HD computer. Silent hunter 5, won't even play smootly on my powerful computer. I don't know if it is the required internet connection or what (which is a turn off).

Some other things that are not fun are:

1. No compass....
2. No way to accurately use the sonar, radar and TDC
3. Slow interface
4. The rudders don't work properly from right, left and amidships.
5. Limited missions
6. The campaigns are slow and you don't know what to do and how to use it.
7. The control buttons don't always work as indicated.
8. There is no complete manual.
9. You can't see the submarine in a 360 angle.
10. You can't scroll through the other ships in your area when fighting.
11. The controls are primative and no where near as streamlined and concise as Silent hunter 3 or 4.
12. Water splashes on the screen during daytime and calm water!
13. You can control the deck gun or even go to it!
14. There is no tutorial (submarine school) to teach you how to navigate in this new game.
15. Crew management is non-existent!
16. Repair of submarine is not controllable.

I could go on and on. Silent hunter 5 is terrible and not enjoyable to play at all! If you buy it...you will be VERY VERY VERY SORRY! Especially if you have a slow internet connect or not a powerful computer. If you have a laptop, you will need an i7 processor with a 1GB Nvida graphics card. Even if you have a desktop, you will need all of that! AND More. You won't enjoy this game!!! You can see other reviews on Amazon.com (UBISOFT's exclusive distributer) or gamespot.

I must say, I did complete all the historic missions in one day...and started the campaigns, but it is not reasonable to sink 100,000 tons of shipping with only 8 torpedoes!

Dr. Jil
I full agree, mate!

After i play sh5 in a house of a friend of mine...it was the best thing witch happen to me...because i was a long time "in the harbour" and after a few war patrols if you call this...i run away to my place to play sh3 gwx 3.0 again, witch make me VERY VERY HAPPY!

P.S. SH3 GWX 3.0 RULES...

Well done...

SH5 sucks...and you will see it will be time to the modders start working in a brad new gwx to SH4...AND THEN IT WILL BE A GREAT SUCESS LIKE THE SH3 GWX 3.0 WAS!

Good Hunting!

Yes there is in the later models right at the bridge. I have one in on my VIIC

They do same as in SH4. SHIFT ARROWS, KEY PAD ZERO

Nice welcome

Actually NO the rudders do NOT function the same in SH5 as they did in SH4.

Hitting SHIFT Arrow gives you FULL rudder AND AWESOME/Insane/Crazy/Ludicrious Speed ahead (they cant call it FLANK speed ahead because the console kiddies wouldnt understand it I guess).

Or just use arrow keys for 1 degree for rudder (one degree??? wtf use is that?)

I think I skip this and stay with SH III & IV... DRM would have killed it for me anyway. Even silly scheme with activation that SiGames went with their Football Manager 2009 is not this stupid idea.

DRM sucks, thats true
only had one time when I couldn't play, and it only lasted about an hour, but I should be able to play offline when ever I want?

other than that, I like it.......it makes a nice change from SH3 (never enjoyed SH4 much)

amazed how people moaned that they wanted the whole sub modelled and when it is (SH5) they all moan about ladders lo0l

I noticed that Bit-tech.net has a review on Silent Hunter 5. I pasted the link here, but I have not read it yet. I'll take a look at it later this evening.
