Exactly where I wanted it to be, thanks... Both 'Darkie' and 'Whitey' are terms of derision depending which side you stand on; and in referring to myself as such... see what I did there?

I didn't think I needed to specifically include the irish, welsh or the scots, or any regional separation as I considered them implicit in my train of thought regarding 'ethnic groups and nationalised britons'.

After all, 'ethnicity' is not the preserve of the coloured individual now, is it?

I understand perfectly, the use of such words and their meanings, but as I'm not bound by any belief of segregation or superiority towards anyone to whom such labels may, or may not apply, I'm completely comfortable in my definition and use of the language to whatever effect I deem necessary - the perception of offence has more to do with other peoples conception of what is or is not bordering on racism. As you sort of prove in your own words.

Racism is about how you behave towards people, not the language you speak. That's my belief anyways. Be it so that there's those who'd take issue with that, and that's fine too. I'll not go overly out of my way to explain or justify myself.
Most of the time I fail to see the problem of race, so it sometimes catches me unawares when people experience some big hoohah over colour.
For the most part the issue or race or colour is not something that means anything to me.

Apart from that, I don't drink lager, german or otherwise, but life would be much diminished without a decent curry.

Don't worry, Jumpy, I got that "calls a spade a spade" zinger even if no one else seems to.

I think it's great that you appear to have developed a one man, self-serving sophistry that absolves you of any prejudice and at the same time places you above taste or anything resembling social sensitivity. If only the darkies were so enlightened.

All that and a Skrewdriver fan offering up his wisdom. Nice to have a bit of the ol' Subsim bigotry as a digestif in between the usual wall of US political spam and paranoid, reactionary diatribes.

Incidentally, "whitey" is only a term of derision if you're a character in a Sidney Poitier film.

hehe, no problem there fella.
Perhaps my post does come across as a little arrogant - I'll concede that. You loose much with only having printed words and not the expressions and gestures you have with a face to face conversation to convey meaning and intent.

But hyperbole aside, I make a point of not judging a person by the colour of their skin, or any other arbitrary social identification. It's not how I was brought up to behave.

Colour is a very emotive subject for many people. Unfortunately it is usually very difficult to get beyond such emotion, even in a place like this. I have lived abroad and at home with many diverse communities and peoples and not once have I found any evidence to suggest that there's any difference between any of us that makes one person better than another because of their skin pigment. It's not sophistry at all; Such an exchange as this illustrates the problem (if I'm reading this correctly anyway).

One can use a word or description to convey an idea without attributing or implying a belief or connotation of personal prejudice to that word, and it is a mistake to make the assumption that there's some other subtext being conveyed. So the sarcasm is not required.

Call it what you wish. I choose to see all peoples as individuals as I meet them. It's really not important to me what colour their skin is or where they are from.

If you want, pm me about it. If not that's ok too.

That is why we have these:

I know it makes things look "internety" (is that a word?) but it helps when putting what you wright in the correct context.

That's alright. By the same token, I'm not a fan of anti-fascists, incidentally - I just happen to like people who sing songs about Ian Stuart getting a gearstick through the forehead when he ran his Nissan Micra off the road driving back from playing to a record-breaking crowd of 300 Neo-Nazis in a farmhouse courtyard in the middle of nowhere.

@Jumpy-

I would take your declarations of racial blindness a great deal more seriously if you assumed that, just perhaps, some Subsim users might descend from those melanin-enriched parts of the world and for some weird reason might not feel welcomed by terms like "darkie". This is not some "PC conspiracy", it is basic tact and self-awareness.
