americn corporate greed wanting dollars for depicting oldtimer planes in games. Horrible, just horrible.

No importing from GWX, I have some better work to use for SHV, Sh3 models will look real sh1tty in SHV without alot of remodling, reskining, light maps etc.
And devs, you JU-88 is a JU-188, I should know

It really is sad how the likeness of these 70+ year old planes can still be owned. I understand a license to the actual design such that you couldn't start a F-6F factory and start pumping out replicas as if you invented the thing, but a painting of a B-17 isn't freely allowed?

Also the German Liberty Ship is just a consequence how programatically they are modular like that. You could fly the Swedish flag over a BB easily... it doesn't mean there are going to be Swedish BBs in the actual campaign. Some careless programmer probably randomized ship types with nation flags for the purposes of making these preview screenshots and these are just some funny results of that.

The whole 'license' thing bugs me too. Thirty years ago I worked for Utah's only model distributor. At that time there was a flap when Chevrolet told the model companies they were going to start requiring a license fee. Revell and Monogram both said "That's okay. We just won't make models of your cars anymore."

I think the retraction went something like "Oh, um, there's some kind of misunderstanding..."

Ubisoft got sued by Grumman a few years ago for use of the Grumman
name, but not the aircraft likeness. It was settled out of court, but I
guess Ubi are now a little wary.
That said, even after the Grumman case, Ubi did release products
featuring exact likenesses of Grumman and other US planes without
any deal between the two companies.

Educational materials can skirt these kinds of rules with fair use. A textbook about WWII can't be sued just for putting a picture of a Grumman plane in it. Maybe some day Silent Hunter will rise to the level of educational material.

After they were designed. The military then orders them, then they are built. They don't keep thousands on hand hoping the military comes calling.

The whole process does consume tax-payers money but the designs are still patented.
