Then there is the inplementation of all the upgrades and god knows what other hellish logistics.
Any takers?

Sure its possible, but done properly its still a massively time consuming headache (of GWX 4-like proportions....)

The Job of the modder is to paint the window frames and fix the guttering, (maybe build a plastic conservatory if he has time)
But this is like asking him to build another two floors and install the roofing.
You normally pay someone to do that
Absolutely.

And these comments are all based on the assumption that modders can even add new playable U-boat types to begin with. Sure, Dan says the game is very moddable, but so was SH3...and how easy is it to add new U-boat types to it? Aren't new types merely replacement "kitbashes" of existing types? This might be OK in SH3 where the XXI makes a convenient replacement "slot", but not in SH5 where the only type that could be replaced is the Type VII! And keep in mind that in SH3 more U-boat types meant more equipment included by default...in SH5, new IX-only equipment would need to be modelled and added as well. Will that be possible? Will an XXI style snorkel be able to be added, considering the default VII and 1943 end date? What about varied turm types?

It will take a very resilient modder methinks...

This was a question that I asked Neal to ask the devs, but it doesn't appear to have been addressed (general modding and open files, yes, but not specifically the ability and ease to add new units, either playable or AI).

If the devs intend releasing other u-boat types over the ensuing months, then they sure as heck won't make it easy for modders to add free playable U-boats.

And this isn't even pondering whether warships can be added either.

We all assumed SH5 would include all the standard U-boat types, so I am VERY reluctant to assume that SH5 will allow new types to be added...unless the devs specifically say so.

I'll simply answer this portion.......

Do you remember this statement in relation to SHIV "Why spend so much time and effort trying to teach a pig to sing"?

as i expected, there is a lot i am dissappointed to read and there is also

a lot about sh5 that i am very happy to read about.

give it a few more reads guys and do it with an open mind

and you will see they are giving us a very very moddable game

is it perect? nope, it is tragic? nope, will i buy it? yes definately

i see sh5 as a ready made fixer-upper that just needs to be fine tuned by the modders to be a very great game. after all, we as modders are able to devote a lot more time to the game then the devs are allowed to so i trust this will be a wonderfull game when modded.

plus dont forget they said near the end that if sh5 did well it was likely we would see an expansion for it to add more subs and content to the end of the war. i dont mind paying for another ($10-$15 hopefully) expansion if the new content is done correctly and ads something more to the game.

Just for the record and those who may jump to the wrong conclusion....the statement in my previous post was not meant to be associated with the forthcoming SHV release, but rather the GWX4 project

I was browsing uboataces.com and uboat.net, most conversions where done around 1943... so forget about upgraing your sub to much.. There where almost no upgrades early war. Perhaps a double barrled AA gun, but that's bout it I reckon.

And we all know what to do when aircraft is spotted: ALAAAAAARRRM crash dive.

Better weather? I haven't seen one single video showing various types of Atlantic weather conditions... if you have - please let us know!

Various eyecandy? Graphics is improved, normaly, but 3d smoke and fire are rather standard in 2010 than "eyecandy"... dynamic shadows still "not confirmed"... U-boat weathering was introduced by maestro Fubar 4 years ago...

Eyecandy we gained - are water reflections on vertical ship surfaces

but there are almost equally as many things about SH5 that leave me scratching my head.

How do you end the game ?

does a letter come in?

do you die uncontrollably in a scripted event?

does it just say...

"Congladuration... you have ciompleted a great game and prooved the justice of our culture, now go and rest our heroes."

im curious as to what end the game may meet with.

how does the story end with 2 furious and challenging years of World War Two still ahead???

just 'Game Over'
