You will hardly see the CAM ship in GWX because there are only very few generic British type=8 entries before June '43. For seeing the CAM ship more frequently in convoys, you will have to do some changes to the campaign files.

It seems that the problems with my Addon Patch are always due to the CAM-ship.

The description by Fitzcarraldo and HW3 of a crash at about 70-75% of loading are classic symptoms of an error in the campaign_RND.mis file (or possibly the campaign_SCR.mis file, depends on their relative sizes, but usually the _RND.mis file is much larger than the _SCR.mis file). Since my patch does not change either of these two campaign files, it is certain that people are making errors in installing their CAM-ships.

The CAM-ship mod serves only to prevent the annoying problem, that the CAM-ship behaves like an aircraft carrier (allows aircraft to fly continually, instead of only once). If you do not have a CAM-ship in your installation, then my mod serves no purpose. Don't try to install a CAM-ship as type 8, and the CAM-fix part of my Addon Patch will be ignored.

Anyone who wants to persist with the CAM-ship should download NYGM and see how it is implemented in the NYGM files. Look for 'M36B' in the campaign_RND.mis file, in the Sea folder (silenthunteriii\data\sea\M36B\M36B.cfg), and in the roster folder (silenthunteriii\data\roster\sea\british\). Finally, check the changes you have made by attempting to load your campaign_RND.mis file into Mission Editor. That will show any serious errors.

*************
Has anyone got any feedback on the how well (or badly) the asdic-fix-for-shallow-waters functions?

Stiebler.

Default asdic-fix-for-shallow-waters

Hi Stiebler, ive had variable results with it at the moment and am currently in a mid 1941 in the north channel trying to get away from a destroyer while in 80m waters. I have found its easier to brake contact in <50m but you have so much less room to maneuver.
I have also managed to attack a convoy in mid Atlantic in rough seas by slipping past an escort at periscope depth at a distance of 50m or less on silent running!
Does sea state play a part in detection?

Agreed. I've had no issues with the patch whatsoever and based on the descriptions it certainly does sound like a fault in the campaign layer.

I disabled the CAM ship mod, and did not change any of those ship's entries, and the game loads now. Guess I'll just live without that one fix.

My campaign file is the "Wilhelmshaven v6 GWX Merged Campaign". In this campaign file, I added the AI subs of V16A H.sie patch.

I´ll test the patch without the CAM ships.

Regards.

...And I tested the patch without CAM ship option (unchecked): all work fine now, loading with Commander and the last Torpedo Failures patch by H.sie.

There is some problem with the CAM I don´t know...

Best regards.

@ChrisGlen:

Many thanks for your feedback on asdic detection in shallow waters.

Yes it does, this is part of the original stock SH3 behaviour, and is correct.

@Fitzcarraldo, Andqui:
I am glad to read that you can now use my patch safely.

Got CTD! I think I did everything right and enable the addon after the supplement fold of V16A3.
This part of Andqui post: "4. Copied the .cfg's for the three CAM ships, added the air group, and changed the unit type to 8" I did not do it, since I could not understand what is this step.
I experiment in desabling the fix of the cam ship but got also CTD! I thinking of deleting the cam ship files, since for me, it's not something important to the game. Should I go for it?
All the ctd were without sh3 commander.

The .cfg file in the data\Sea folder for your CAM-ship(s) will have a line for Unit type, which needs to be 8 (not 100 or maybe 102 or whatever it is now).

I think you also need to go into the Roster folder and find the .cfg file(s) for the same ship(s) - IIRC this should only be the British roster - and change the Unit type in those files to 8. The only CAM-ship I have is M36B so that was the only one I changed but I changed it in both places.

OTOH, I don't know for sure if this is correct, I just know that I got an error from Mission Editor when I tried to open my campaign files after installing the Add-On files... which went away when I changed the Unit type in the appropriate Roster .cfg file as well. I have not loaded the game yet to confirm this, though.

Yes, that is correct.

Change the Unit Type to 8 for your CAM-ship* in 3 places:

1. In data\campaigns\campaign\campaign_RND.mis file (if that is where you have placed your CAM-ship*). In this file, 'Unit Type' is called simply 'Type='.
2. In data\sea\CAM-ship*.cfg
3. In data\roster\british\sea\CAM-Ship*.cfg.

(*Where "CAM-ship" refers to the actual ship you are using. It will normally be IABL's M36B ship.)

Then try to load your revised campaign_RND.mis file into Mission Editor. If it complains (or crashes), you haven't made the changes correctly.

Stiebler.

POssibly my error, because I did not place anything in that file. Or I can not understand what you mean. I did look into it, but could find the cam-ship type.
