Can't hate the country, in which largest state the most popular beer is our local stuff (Altbier) - afaik the only place outside of Europe that brews it.

Always go for the stuff from small, local breweries; this goes also for Germany, but is an essential survival tip for the US.

In the 80s I drank a lot of imported beer (usually darker ales, etc), and some local stuff. Starting in the 90s I was drinking more and more local, to the point that local brews, or bottled microbrews from other states are the vast majority of what I drink.

Being here in New Mexico, the most mass-produced beers I get are usually at Mexican restaurants that only have Dos Equis, Corona, and maybe Negra Modelo (confronted with that choice I usually drink the latter). Many now also carry local, bottled brews though.
