Funny thing is most that work in DC live in either Virgina or Maryland and commute to work.
It is interesting that of the the top 13 some have a low burglary rate and others have a high rate. One factor to consider is that a burglar typically wants to break into a home or property while it is not occupied in which case it matters little if the owner packs heat or a baseball bat or teeth because they will not be home to use their weapon of choice anyway. In fact if you are after firearms the best time to hit a home which may have firearms in it is when no one is home. I read some place that the typical burglar(who does it "professional and not in dope fiend desperation) will scope out a neighborhood to get a feel for the comings and goings then he'll find the most soft house and observe the owners patterns and hit the home when the neighborhood most likely is empty an that home is most likely to be empty. My aunt in Ft.Lauderdale her home got broken into and a two cops live across the street and one cop car is always in the drive. So this person either did not care or figured the pattern of the cop neighbors. He only stole electronics and did not touch money in plan sight (strange). My aunt's house was the soft house hers being the only one that did not have an alarm or a sign that claimed so I know people who just steal an ADT sign and put in their yard a clever one can easily look for the boxes and call that bluff. Personally I prefer not to advertise what is inside my home including firearms so I have no signs up at all. I think that actually makes someone think that you have something that they might want if they see a sign that implies that you have guns and that is what they want.Well then they might wait for a time for you to be absent and take your guns.If they are dumb enough to try it while I am home well they'll know I have guns because they will be staring down the barrel of one it will be a surprise package kind of like Cracker Jacks but better because they get a free ride to jail and when they arrive at the jail they get a new set of clothes. My truck has no signs or stickers related to firearms because I do not want some jerk seeing them and then breaking in to try and get any that might be inside. Thing is if someone picks your house or your vehicle or you it is on like it or not.It is most easy to avoid being the target of crime when you are on your feet just make it clear that you are paying attention to your surrounds muggers like to surprise people screwing around with phones and such not the alert person.I check my six pretty often while on foot in public.Honestly the place I feel most exposed is when pumping fuel.Usually I will stand in front of my vehicle and stand facing my vehicle or I stand by the pump with my back up against it.With a tractor-trailer I sometimes sit behind the cab.Never been mugged or robbed but I did once catch a guy in the process of breaking into my pick up he learned the hard way that I can brawl pretty well. Situational awareness is a must when you're out in public. My little brother got mugged at gunpoint in Memphis, while sitting in his vehicle at a busy gas station.
I've run from New York to Los Angeles and many points in between and never got mugged. I normally don't carry more than a dollar in change. But I do carry a sharp boot knife if a mugger wants to tango ![]()

On the other hand, i'm guessing every 1 out of 2 people are gun owners after the "Great Gun Store run of 2013", so no, they probably wouldn't make it very far if the owners home. ![]() |
