Default Sound officer a saboteur?

This is weird. Have been cruisng the North Atlantic for days in search of enemy warship (Blockade of Germany, jan 1940). Seas seem completely empty. Every now and the we dive to listen around. Every time I take over the earphones myself and immediatley the whole crew starts wiping their feet and stamping around as loud as they can. After another hour of slow underwater cruis I ask the sound guy if he spots anything. "Yes, there is an enemy warship, about 8000 meters on the port site".

Now isn't it a logic thing that he would report something like that without my asking for it after days listening to empty seas??? Can I have this guys executed for treason???

seems the hydrophone guy never works in this game. Only time i can ever find out if there is something on hydrophone is if i hear it or if i ask for a sound contact.

Makes it kinda unimmersive for me but oh well

That's strange. My sonar man always seems to call out sound contacts to me. Now following them when asked...that's a different story.

That's funny, so many different behaviours in the same game...

My sound officer (allmost) never seems to mention a sound contact by himself, I have to ear it myself or ask him for it. But when I ask him he usually keeps tracking it and calling bearings OK. I also have patch 1 (and several mods) installed.

I would like to recant this comment. You are right, the soundman doesn't usually call out contacts unless asked to follow them. Sometimes, when I've asked him to follow a contact, I notice he then also calls out new ones. Makes no sense.

I think that this very funny !! .. maybe you should port and find another crew !! all aside from joking .. I know that being a patrol is crazy .. I went on staiton for four days after I went to the designated area nothing , but a few ships that were to far from me and I did waste gas trying to pursue them , I kept sending reports to the BDu .. 3 times the game mark was changed . The final game mark showed up, it was the forth one... . I large convoy was passing through I managed to sink a tanker ,, and that was it . well Iam still learning techniques in manual targeting But it was disapointing .. My boat did get damaged from waserbombden .. But I survied ,, The hydrophone fix , that TDW advocates should help define targets alot better .

Also I dont know Sobers mod changes if those changes are more defined in TDW'S Hydrophone FIX , If It gets the dummy to keep it real . Tha I would try it and see if its any GOOD !! . what does the other senior virtual Kaulens think about sobers MOD ? does it work ?
