Actually, in rough seas, a shot forward usually brings them down quicker than a shot amidships.

I know when I was first playing stock, before I switched to GWX, it seemed like they would send a destroyer or a plane almost anytime I sunk a ship fairly close to England. However in GWX I've seen less interceptors come searching in the area after a sinking.
