It´s like black may in 1943 for UBI , in a short period the damage done to SHV was too high that they had to retire of the battle. ( less sales and loss of people and money)

YOU JUST CAN'T PLAY IT !!!

It's just hard drive filler.

So all the pirateing in the world isn't going to make a pirated SH5 playable.
And that is exactly why over intrusive protection software fails. You underestimate everything. Where there is a will there is a way.

Remember it only took one man with a rifle and three bullets to kill the worlds most powerful man. Never say Never........again.....

All of this discussion is moot for me. I am already having to purchase something I do not want (a U Boat sim) which I am buying to support Ubisoft hoping that SH6 will be back in the Pacific where the series belongs. As long as I have the funds available I will have an internet connection but, the economics are thinning out the herd so to speak and I cannot say that I won't have some kind of situation that would cause me to drop my ISP. The health of my family and pets will always come before my leisure time activities. I won't be pirating the game though. I couldn't crack it with a nut cracker! However in my opinion, if it ain't showing up on the bit torrent sites, nobody else will be playing it but subsim.com members. The news about the modding tools is a plus I suppose, if you know how to do mods. I am wondering will we be able to hear the sound of the ASDIC hitting the hull during gameplay?

I found this today as I did a quick internet search on Ubisoft and DRM:

http://pendr4gon.blogspot.com/2010/0...ry-online.html

Food for thought perhaps. Well, I've gone back to enjoying Silent Hunter 3 and will have to hope that Silent Hunter 5 returns to base for critical repairs before sailing our way. If it were my company, I'd announce a strategic delay, dump the mandatory online scheme, launch a major PR effort to regain my customer base and try and be very transparent at this point - in other words, avoid "spin" and hiding behind excuses like "this is simply the way the market / culture / technology is forcing us to go, blah, blah." I mean, you're publishing a U-Boat simulator right? Read your history books guys. To hell with what everybody else is doing in the market. Just be different and your customers will rally to you - load your torpedoes and launch 'em.

Well, I'm just a customer. Now, I've got orders to report to Lorient before the wife stirs and then I'll need to make my way to the galley to feed my crew. Good hunting all.

Yeah, and if it was made uncrackable by man, then men can't crack it

Ubi, pay attention to the voice of your clients.
Well if i must believe an UBI official who said . " we do not believe DRM will effect sailes at all " they have nothing to worry about. But i think they wil be sorry they ever choose to go for DRM. Esspecially concidering the fact that they dont listen to there own clients that have even warned them well in time to consider dumping DRM

Brag, If you somehow turn out to be right, (about a 50% loss) then it may also have sealed the fate of the SH franchise.
So excuse me for not joining in any victory celebrations just yet.

If that happens there will be no reason to celebrate

We want Ubi to reconsider and save itself. They obviously did not think this thing through. Now, they are probably perplexed at the massive negative reaction

Well, even though I would be cautious about the impact that DRM will have on the sales (negative, yes, but HOW negative exactly ...) IF UBI should face such problems they would simply have to take a look in their own forum to read the reason why sales are low and a possible cure ( "The Holy Patch" ). If I was in management at UBI and my product would suck at sales I'd at least try to regain those that claim to hold out until the online requirements are dropped. Then all there is to do is hope that enough people notice and run happily to the store and buy SH5.
