Unexpected Turn

Big surprise!
Yesterday's poll Will DRM affect your . . . in the Sticky section
showed 18% of members would buy SH5 regardless of DRM

So I predicted a loss of 50% of people who would buy.

This morning, that group was reduced to 13%
This indicates a significant trend. Very seldom one sees such unanimous opinion.

Ubi, pay attention to the voice of your clients.

I wonder what figure represents in actual unit costs :hmmm:

Also, how many will be using an ''unofficial way'' of playing the game given that this ''way'' is going to be provided??? :D

My guestimate is our group is representative of at least 20,000 (Neal would have more accurate figures)that owuld represent a loss of 17,400clients at let's say 20 Euros each. That's 348,000 euros.

We don't have data to calculate the bad mouth effect, negative news coverage and reviews

Ubis marketing dingalings are in for a rough ride.

I guess we will have to wait and see.

Just a friendly reminder, getting "I wonder how many people will rip off the game", not a good idea here. ;)

Let's clear the air.

You can download Rise of Flight alot of places free.

YOU JUST CAN'T PLAY IT !!!

It's just hard drive filler.

So all the pirateing in the world isn't going to make a pirated SH5 playable.

Letum 01-29-10 01:20 PM

Who mentioned RoF in this thread?

Besides, not quite just a HDD filler. It's being used in timeshare with Australians one one account. ;)

is this the "uncrackable DRM" discussion all over again? :rotfl2:
allow me to quote Dowly "if it was made by a man, it can be cracked by another".

Subsim aint the only place with people wondering about this DRM or OSA or GTF or HYS or whatever.
There are many Gamer forums, simmer forums, and real world discussions. and none of them were PRO - Ubisoft marketing.
They all shake their heads. Except those who dont care about the future.

True. It surprises me some still believe one can build an inexpugnable wall.

Seems like a big paradox to me!

Negative news coverage has already started ...even before seeing some real reviews.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the whole DRM thing is a good one, but for my part, I'm gonna wait to read some in-depth reviews & comments here by credible members before making a decision about whether or not I buy the game.

It was a current example letum.

The majority of simmers can't play RoF nor will be able with SH5 that way.

Sorta puts a big Kibosh on the entire "pre-buy" thing...don't it? :rotfl2:

Why anyone would "pre-buy" a PC game is beyond me, anyway. "Support the developers"? Support their bad habit of releasing unfinished BS, maybe. This entire DRM thing lends much more creedance to my phylosophy...I don't spend a dime on anything, until it is working and working the way I expect it to. Patches and updates are things for the unfortunate souls who buy into the entire "support the developers" myth.

When and if I ever pay a dime to have SHV...it will be a completely patched up and DRM free version, with all bugs worked out as much as they are willing to fix. If that version is not acceptable, by listening to you users, then I will gladly continue my SHIII+GWX campaigns and not miss SHV a bit.

I will rely on all the poor people who pre-bought SHV to give the rest of us the real "skinny" on how it's working and the progression of the "patches".

I gotta say it..."I told you so!"
