Hi everyone!
After quiting the US Postal Service in 2001 due to my maintenance supervisor being a jerk, I have finally gotten back in. I'll be working as a 'casual', but not in the realm of seasonal. As I've told everyone lately, it has come full circle. If I didn't quit the Post Office then, my wife would not have gone to school for Surgical Technology and gotten the job that she has now in a stable career field. My foot is back in the door and the plant manager here told me in the interview that my prospects of being hired as a career employee is high due to being a veteran and a 'reinstatement eligible' postal employee. Thanks for the years of listening to me whine about my various employement woes! |

Sonar,
I hate to rain on anyone's parade but... The new FSS is causing massive excessing. My understanding is Memphis, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, and Denver have already drawn their circle and more is to come. I suspect St. Louis, once it goes, will have an even bigger circle. The Union's have to be notified that layoffs have been considered, as is required by the contract. Reinstatement is probably your best option and I would be making that application very, very quickly. I think you also have going for you that you were in maintenance - as those spots seem to me anyway to be a little rougher to fill than the 'operational' type positions. I wish you luck. I do not envy anyone having to look for a job.....

That's why I'm attempting to get in as a casual. My chances of reinstatement go better as I'm already inside. Last edited by sonar732; 11-21-08 at 12:58 PM. |

Congratz, I can also relate to what you told about your previous boss being a bit of an ass. Been there done that. It can be especially bad if your working environment is dangerous and has all kinds of hazards that you're not properly briefed on.
Although the good thing is, once you've gone through a bad work experience, you'll notice that pretty much anything else will feel like an improvement. ![]() |

Actually, by Civil Service rules, they cannot take it into consideration your casual time or the fact you are presently a casual...however you are probably right in your assessment...My personal opinion is that you should apply for reinstatement...and hope your old boss isn't still there....

Our facility had the FSM-1000 when I left. I'm sorry if I came across that I thought my time as a casual would count as I know that wouldn't. I am curious as to whether or not I would get my last pay step of E if I got reinstated as I can't find anything in the ELM or contract about reinstatement. I once considered a career in the Post Office but was turned off by the maze of rules and regulations involved. It made the Army seem straight forward by comparison.

I'm hoping to get on as a carrier. My gramps, and his brother both di, and mom was a sup at the Annex, so I figure the job can't be all that bad.
