Jan 26th, 1943, GWX2.1
U-64, Type IXB Georg Junker Commanding Location: West Coast of Africa Grid DU77 Convoy: heading NNW, slow. About 25 merchants. Condition: Overcast, Wind 12+ knots, Visibility OK Pick up convoy on sonar at 0855 hours heading streight at me. Get into position NW of the expected route. Engine stop. All silent at P depth. the lead escort pass in front on the boat within 1500 but did not detect us. Move ahead slow after she passed. At 1015, Fire 6 torps in quick sucession, heard 5 impacts, sunk 3 ships total 14000 GRT. Successfully avoid detection by escorts by heading South and dive to 190. Did not deploy decoys. After the last escort sail away, we surface at 1115 and follow the convoy slowly for 1 hour to see if there are any stragglers. None found. Will continue south toward last known location of U459 for refuel and transition to the Indian Ocean. |

Wow, I'm very impressed that you guys are attacking convoys that late (especially 1943) and not getting detected? How far away are you shooting, and what do you do after shooting to evade (dive fast, slow, turn away, etc.)? I'm kind of suprised that escorts haven't gotten close enough to detect you with what should be improved sonar. Unless that hasn't come online yet (is that mid-1943?). Keep up the good work!

Here is the latest one ive done.
U-45 type Viib First i went is and blasted the three distroyers head on, then I surfaced. There is only one corvette left. We had a surface battle.:p (I one) then I went in and shredded the convoy to shreads, not one shell or torpedo left on my boat. ![]() sank over 60,000 tons in less than a week. ![]() ![]()

15.5.40.0920Grid BC 82Ship sunk! S.S. Southern Princess (Whale Factory Ship), 12017 tons0935Grid BC 82Ship sunk! M/V Ranier (Modern Tanker), 8896 tons0937Grid BC 82Ship sunk! S.S. Thorshammer (Whale Factory Ship), 12016 tons1142Grid BC 82Ship sunk! Large Troop Ship, 15751 tons
Total: 48,680 tons. Six torpedoes used. Found this one off Newfoundland, steering SW at 9 knots. Had to do an end-around at high speed to get into a good shooting position. All four torpedoes hit, one on each of the above. The first three sank within 30 minutes of being hit. The troopship came to a stop. After two hours the escorts gave-up and rejoined their convoy so I snuck up and put two more into the trooper to finish him off. By this time the convoy was well over the horizon, and it was broad daylight, so I didn't pursue. |

Once the DD come to 5-6km I slow down to 1kt, and completely stop once they are 2-3km away. I keep my periscope down, and raise it only shortly to get the data. My targets were 3.5-4 km away, but they were on the far side of the convoy. THe nearest merchant was less than 1km away, the leading DD passed about 1.5km from me, and the flanking one was about 2km away. As soon I fire last torpedo, I start diving, very slow at 1kt, and alter my course some 30°.

September 20th, 1939
U-19 IIA 1900 hours snuck into the docks at Dover under cover of dark, rain and fog. Sunk a tramp steamer as well as a small merchant. 5000 tons. Observed an American merchant and Norwegian ship in dock. The bridge took a few rounds from a small patrol boat when a wave dipped and left the tower exposed. |
