What's the big deal. If it was a different country would it warrant a thread here with all the same conotations as this one was started or is it because it is Big Bad Russia. It's not like the UK, US and other countries haven't banned programmes before beacuse they thought they were offensive. Mary Whitehouse anybody?

also The Life of Brian was banned by several councils in Britain for blasphemy..

Of course you're free to have a different interpretation, at any rate what we both think doesn't matter that much.
Bottom line should be that parents decide what's good or not for their children. If a religious group wants to sue for "incitation to religious hatred", fair enough.. But seeking the ban of the cartoon so as to "protect the children", come on.
I beg to differ as to whether what we think matters or not , it matters a lot to us You took the article one way, I took it another. We're each entitled to interpret it as we wish. We are each entitled to interpret the intentions of the religious group in our own ways. You choose to interpret their intentions in a negative manner, I choose the positive. We're probably both wrong

Kind of a non-story, really. For the record, I love South Park, a healthy dose of cultural and political irreverence goes a long way.

Oh, and regarding priests being worried about childrens innocence, it makes me laugh.

I heard something along the same lines a few years ago on voice of Russia. They were bemoaning the fact that the classic Russian cartoons weren't popular anymore and couldn't compete with the Western cartoons. vis-s-vie Cheburashka.

Cheburashka is great and the old Soviet Cartoons and animations are way better than most western stuff. There are a few modern things too.

Google Smeshariki and Luntik

Coming from a religious and a godless atheist, the opposite would have been surprising
:rotfl:Now you're psychic BTW I won't always defend a religious point of view because many of them make no sense whatsoever.

Perspective.

Good point also at the end on The Life of Brian.

Speaking of South Park, I had the strangest dream a few nights ago. Trey Parker was killed in a car wreck.
