I took out a carrier

Finally, after 2,5 years (and several near misses and other bad luck), I finally sank a carrier.

I'm doing the Liverpool - Murmansk route with my brand new IXD2 and there are not many contacts here. I stumbled upon two convoys, both had a Bogue Carrier in their rows. Both times I got in and out easily. First time I couldn't aim for the carrier, and fired at a tanker. It was destroyed after the first hit.

The second convoy I was able to maneuvre right in front of the Bogue and fired four torpedoes. Three hit and one missed, hitting a destroyer some moments later

The Bogue was destroyed the moment the first torpedo hit it.

This lane turns out to be pretty interesting, also lots of Icebergs here.

Haven't encountered aircraft carriers just yet!

Are you sure they exist?:hmm:

Are they just Allied propaganda aimed at reducing our morale of the U-bootwaffe?

Help me!

Good show! I didn't sink a carrier until late 44 and I got a hell of a working-over for it. Never have sunk a fleet carrier though, only escorts like the Bogue.

I intercepted a Bogue or Casablabnca class carier on its Torch run to Casablanca! Sadly, a troop transport intercepted the torpedo I sent to the carrier. Stoopid GIs saved the zoomies butts.

some good spots for carriers are:
off Norway early on, say 1939 1940
the Med between Gibraltar and Malta
I've also seen one near Key West in the US, but the weather was too bad to intercept

the only one I've sunk was an Illustrious near Norway that came steaming right over my boat in heavy fog, only got to see it long enough to shoot, it did sink, but didn't see it
