Don't worry Fred, we've all sufferred the the "can't see the forest through the trees" at times. I just did it with my boat, thanks to my bro, I just save about 1,200.00 by modifying the winshield base instead of having one built for the above price mentioned. I took some sheet aluminum, figured out the angles, and made a ledge that follows the sweeping angle of the original unit, and will also serve as a splash guard to a point. Cost in aluminum sheet, about 25.00 and 3 hours of my time. My son even got an education in metal fabrication. I let him do the measuring and angle solutions to get a vertical sweep of 35 degrees, and horizontal sweep of 25 degrees from amidships to the gunwhale.

So sometimes a second set of eyes is a great help. Keeps us from professional myopia.
