As for the shadowy bird, it is certainly possible. For myself, I tend to stick to something close to the patch that is on the flag. I usually cut the figure out of the patch and then brush over the portions that look "stitched" (and try to remove some of the pixellation when using a small image) so that it looks more like a paint job.

If you'd like a Searaven with one of those hat wearing birds, I'd be glad to put one together. We'd just have to make sure that the versions are noted in any update reports so we'd know which skin to add flags to.
