Agreed, but I still see lots of drivers using mobiles whilst driving, even women whom I thought were supposed to be more sensible than men drivers, but that's another issue.

Already inside their mother'S womb, female foetus make seven times as much talking movements with their lower chin, than male foetus. no joke, it's true. A Scottich biologist showed that three or four years ago.

These folks may have a valid concern but knocking on my door at 8am to ask me to sign a petition really isnt going to get me on their side.

To answer the thread`s question i dont think its anywhere near as dangerous as smoking, smoking is proven to cause cancer and many other serious health complaints whereas the majority of research conducted on the subject of cell phone radiation has yet to show any link between cell phones and increased instances of tumors.
This is exactly where the author of this study disagrees with you, and says: that evidence is there. Mind you, what he did was a meta-study, so he analysed not his own reasearch results, but analysed the data of over 100 already existing studies. and as the article says, French and German governments have ooficially called for minimizing cellphone use (especially by children), and so did the EU as well. considering how slow and fatalistic politicians are to produce such obvious steps of action, I assume they did so by seeing according data. And as I said from my subjective experience, studies showing that there might be a health risk involved that is considerable already were to be find in the early 90s.

If they get caught, then pulled over, they have a choice:

pay a fixed penalty or contest in court and run the risk of being fined a four figure sum

My only advice is that if you are concerned with the health risks of using a cell phone, don't use one.

Me? After 20 years in the military, I have been exposed to so much radiation and industrial chemicals that a little cell phone really won't do much to affect my life expectancy.

And if it does, it will have done that over such a long period of time that you will not be able to track the cause back to it anyway.

Why caring for anything then if dying earlier anyway...

As Rodney Dangerfield said

"Aside from any accidents, if you take good care of your self, eat right, and exercise, one of these days you will get very sick and die"

Life is a tough gig, no one gets out alive.

The only way that it's even remotely possible.. and I mean VERY VERY remotely possible for a cell phone to cause cancer would be if you have your cell phone strapped to your ear 24-7 and are takling on it 24-7. Even then.. chances are so slim that you would have any problem that it's not even worth figuring out. The power just isn't there.

I'm not so sure about that Blacklight. We don't have a good handle on the effects of long term low level exposure.

Actually, I agree with Skybird.

Mobile or Cell phones, call them what you will... are based on microwaves, the same microwaves that cook your ready meals... that means you are putting a microwave device right next to your head. This is why I prefer to text!

Although the exposure is very very low there is no concrete answers as to what years and years and years of exposure to it will do to you. I think if you want to compare this to smoking as it stands now on research its probably less dangerous than smoking.

Although... one bit of advice if ever you are out in the thunderstorms, do the sensible thing and turn your phone off... lightning can ride the signal right down to you, that would be a shocking a experience.

Again, the 100 studies the man analysed seem to differ with you, at least a majority of them. Do you know what you claim or do you just believe it, unfounded? How long you need to telephone per week, and wether the transmitted energy is sufficient or not in order to cause a tumour within organic tissue and the brain obviously is seen considerably lower by these studies than you assume. Also, a brain tumor they said takes about 10 years to develope. We do not talk about putting your hand into a microwave oven and push the button, but exposure to low energy radiation, with regularity, over a longer period of time.

Oh, never thought of that, and didn't know that. Gives a whole new meaning to "Beam me up, Scotty!" (image of Kirk on my mind, opening his communicator, giving the order, and getting zapped) Thanks!

Switch the bugga off before filling your car up with petrol (diesel isn't such a risk)

Didn't know that either! Never saw a cellphone causing sparks. But have no car anyway.

How comes?

Probably depends on which side of the unknown you subscribe to.

Only ever once been called to a petrol station fire/explosion and the eventual forensic report gave the cause as IIRC, something along the lines of 'A potentially variable causation factor. Possible causes included one or all of the following: Naked flame/spark unextinguished cigarrette, mobile phone)

Me.....I err on the side of caution. Treat flammable materials with the utmost respect :hmm:
