Default Need hits or tips

I have a mission to photograph Carriers in Manila harbor. From the mouth of the harbor to the "star" is 30nm and most is periscope depth and of course the destroyers guarding it. I am doing 1/3 (the war will be over before I get back ) Any tips from you guys that have done harbor missions. I looked at Tokyo harbor and it has some deep spot where you can hide for a while, this one doesn't. I did save a seperate file, if I don't make it I can try a different technique.

Edit: How far away do the destroyers have to be to try ahead 2/3, I am assuming if I have a blue line pointing at them, then I am picking up their noise, so they could pick up me? Correct? Also, will I get a map line pointing to the carriers if they are anchored? This is picking up noise right? It would help find them but it would also confuse who is who.

Hmmm 1/3 seems your only option. You may be sighted if you enter Manila Harbor from the coast and that's no good. You're taking a chance surfacing. If I were you run 2/3 on the surface and submerge at 1/3 about a mile away from Manila Harbor entrance until you reach your destination and out of the mouth of the harbor.

Peabody you sure grow up fast you Stinky Mate, you.

I would never go to 2\3, too much battery drain. For a mission like that I set speed at 2 kts for maximum submerged range and use time compression so it doesn't take forever to do the mission.

I might not live long enough to do 2kts. I can't use time compression, it automatically brings the destroyers to me. Someone on this forum commented about that, and I did some testing and sure enough, if they are looking for you and you try to use time compression to get away they will be all over you if they are close enough to start with, which these are.

Guys,

Just so you know if you havent seen it in another thread... Time compression apparently allows the AI to cheat and from what i understand from items i've read will allow the bad guys to find you no matter how quiet you are.

Best thing is dont use TC at all when entering a harbour and run at 1/3rd - silent running.

this also applies to out in the ocean dont use TC when intercepting a convoy, this probably accounts for why peeps get DC'd when they are submerged and believe they have snook up on their prey and the next thing they hear is a destroyer doing an attack run and dropping ash cans right down their throats.

i think this is also why i see ships zig zagging when i've used high TC and no zig zagging when i run at normal speed.

Thanks for the tips guys, I made it. Almost didn't but had a bit of luck too. No moon, so it was so dark, when I hit some very shallow water I had to come up to "decks awash" I think it's called. I hugged the west shoreline and came in from behind them. They weren't docked, they were anchored in the northern part of the harbor. So dark I had trouble finding them. But wouldn't ya know it, I snap the pics (I do photography as a hobby and they didn't get any pics from that unless they were using infared film!) Submerge and when I had to come up next time, suddenly get a contact warning. Stupid fishing boat, must have had a cell phone because everyone started heading for me. Everyone was heading NW so I figured is was a good time to head SW hugging the shoreline again and I got out before they found me.
I did write to Washington, next time send a plane.
