This is from my latest patrol of Heinz Buder.
I was just completing my assigned patrol grid (BF15), and the weather was rough, with fog/hvy seas/rain. And I picked up a sound contact at long range, so I statred to track and plot an intercept course. Despite the bad weather, I decided to go and sink this target. I was tracking by hydrophones till the taget was about 3km away - couldn't see it, kept tracking till it was about 500m away. I then went to attack scope and swa this Medium tanker bearing down on me! So I quickly launched two eels at it (i had set the depth/speed/magnetic pistols), then proceded to dive at All Ahead Flank to avoid it. As I was diving one eel hit, and next thing my U-boat was rocking violently - I'd been hit! ![]() All in all a good sinking, but got very hairy, and I won't be doing that again.

speaking of tankers...
I found a convoy full of them. 3lg. Tankers(the big 12k ton kind), 2 W. Factory Ships, 3 Intermediate Tankers, 3 Nipian Park Tankers, Small Tanker, Modern Tanker. That's alot of tankers; all protected by 3 Flowers and one Polish Bourrasque class. Grid AL03 Course 100 Speed 8 happy hunting! this is the first large tanker convoy that I've seen with GWX2.0 |

The Fog can be a killer. I once was crusing along off Ireland when the next moment I'm under attack as a lookout calls "ship spotted!". A destroyer had come up astern of me and despite my decks awash and a sonar operator, they spotted me (I know that he came up through my dead zone for sonar contacts). I did submerge and try to doge, but got nailed!

The fog really is terrible. I have to practically close to 300 meters to see my target, though hitting the L key does a pretty good trick or locking onto a ship even in fog. Also very useful when crossing the English Channel, while surfaced durring the day.
