Can I make a confession?

I played SHIII since pretty much day 1 (well, March 2005), and I've never sunk a battleship in campaign It must be the way I play the game. (Though I damaged two or three)

I did take down a fleet carrier once, but it was stuck in the open sea without moving (a glitch...) so I'm not even sure how fair it was. Otherwise my biggest tonnage were a couple of liners I sunk.

Queen Mary.

Ignore the Mary being pushed into the sand. It's just a glitch from that other bloke who decided he'd sink on top of her.

Otherwise, the Rodney:

And finally, the Iowa:

HMS Hood with 48K Tons is the largest in the game tonnage wise and Renown (in GWX 1) 2500.

I took it down once and pretty much have taken down all other types of BBs from Britain in my last two campaigns. Haven't come across any US BB yet, but then again, I have only finished a few patrols in GWX compared to my previous custom mixed-mod SH3 Installs.

BTW, I only play at 71% realism, which is mostly due to my inability to use Manual Targeting.

The Neslon for me. Seems to be the town sub that everyone has had a chance to take down...

Big Capital Ships, collect the whole set:
(approximate historically available number in brackets)

HMS Hood, BC (1) check
King George V class, BB (5) check, check
Illustrious Class, CV (4) check, check

still to go:

Essex Class CV (lots)
Iowa Class BB (4)
Nevada Class BB (not sure, 7?)
Revenge Class BB (10?)*
Nelson class BB (2)
Renown Class BC (2)
Maxim Gorki CA (3)
Marat BB (1)
Vittorio Veneto Class BB (4)

there's quite a few others out there, most aren't in the game, especially a whole bunch of British aircraft carrier types, but that's my to do list
better get back to it, some of those are going to be sunk by the Japanese and the Luftwaffe if I don't hurry

* also includes placeholders for Queen Elizabeth class BB

Only two Nevadas, and five Revenge battleships.

Best result was HMS Hood in GWX 1.03, standing in for Renown during the skirmish with Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. Despite taking two torpedoes and listing heavily she still managed somehow to sink both of them with some cracking "over-the-shoulder" gunnery! After that I stuck another two torps into her and she obligingly heeled over and capsized - very satisfying to see a big ship capsize in GWX (as they usually did in real life). Sadly I lost all the screenshots when I updated to 2.0

Just sank the HMT Aquitania a liner/troopship of 45,557 tons with one torpedo under the bridge.
