Largest Single Ship Sunk?
I was off the coast of Norway while surpporting the invasion on my 5th patrol, when I came across a Task Force of about 10 DD's and HMS Nelson. I shot 4 at her, 3 went into her bow the 4th prematuerd. I was then deth charge for 1.5 hrs. I was alone when I sufaced so I continued alone the TF's track till I found the old girl. The DD's had already taken off the crew and had scadadled. She was bow down up to the 3rd turrent but to keep from being salvaged I put another one into her, she went down within minutes.
So HMS Nelson 36,000 ton! |
I found the Nelson on my 4th patrol, out of the north-west coast of Britain.
She was only being escorted by two DD's:o So I gave her a four salvo-shot... played cat and mouse with the small guys, and then went back for a coup-de-grace shot on her... |
Found her sister ship running inside a convoy in november 39 HMS Rodney 36000 tons also:yep:
|
Got lucky the other day in N/E 53 and took out HMS Rodney & HMS King George V. :arrgh!:

I just started a new career in GWX2, and went with starting in the Med this time (albeit in a VIIC, not a B). On first patrol, we did bag a Dido and a Southampton, and we are now out on our 2nd patrol. So 10K tons for the Southampton is the biggest vessel thus far this career.
In my history of playing SHIII, I once came across the Nelson, Rodney and, err, the NelsonII/RodneyII. Yup, 3 Nelson class all in a row, with cruiser and DD escorts. I only managed to sink the lead two  (was in a IXB). I also remember the first time I ever even saw a big liner - coming out of the Med. - I put 4 torps into it since I had no idea how much it took to sink something over 50K tons. It blowed up real goood  P.S. this was stock SHIII, within a few weeks of it's initial release, so I did not have any mods at all. |
Hood on my first ever GWX patrol
seen her a couple of times after that, but never managed to quite sink her |
Found the Hood on Day 4, patrol 1 of GWX 2 sitting in a port. 2 torps sent her to the bottom. 48k tons :arrgh!:
You can read about it here: http://207.44.214.111/subsim.com/rad...highlight=hood Tool. |
Large Merchant
I really must take a poke into DER KANAL at some point, probably get my nose blown off, but it seems to be the place for shipping. |
You recognize that ship ... ?

That one is my biggest so far in all careers. I never killed anything bigger :( , YET :) |
I've taken out pretty much every ship in GWX...save the really small coastal craft....and the Axis ships.
I've taken out the Hood numerous times, both in port and at sea. Haven't gotten into the Pacific yet in GWX2, but in the earlier versions of GWX I ran into an Iowa-class, which went to the bottom. So if it's gross tonnage, I think it'd be the Hood, wouldn't it? |
The Nelson for me too.

Man.. I feel like a loser here. Largest ship I ever sent to the bottom was a big old troop ship in Scapa Flow.
I DID have an opprotunity to take down TWO battleships of the size pictured above once. They were driving in a nice straight line behind a C&C class that was leading them. I fired off all my torpedoes at the last ship in line. One missed. One exploded about 15 secconds after leaving the tube, another hit the ship but didn't explode and riccocheted off the hull, and the last one exploded a good 5-10 feet away from the ship (close enough to shower the sailors with water and fish). Oddly enough, the ships took no notice at all and just kept chugging along. They were going fast enough that I could hardly keep up with them and I ended up losing them in a fog bank. :damn: |
In 5 patrols in GWX2 I have already sunk the Nelson and Rodney. They were guarding the center of seperate convoys. I've also taken out a South Hampton class as well. You know it must be disheartening for those DDs and merchants to see their BB go down in flames. Really shatters that feeling of saftey.

My biggest ship so far looking at my war reccord was a troop ship (S.S. Desert Light) weighing in at 8891 tons. I'm looking for bigger fish on my current tour but have yet to find a single ship this time out. It seems they're all hiding from me.
Not only that.. but I just recieved a message that a minefield has been discovered all ove the place west of Heligoland so I'm going to have to be real careful on my drive home. |
