I second the motion! Graphics isn't the only thing that makes a great sub simulation. I'd rather have a great simulation with last year's graphics than a lousy simulation with orgasmic graphics.

SH4 is a great game with great graphics, but SH3 is equal gameplay-wise in my estimation. Outmoded it is not!

I can't answer this poll as my selection isn't there.

I've never owned SHIII ...

Haven't touched SHIII once since I got IV. Probably never will again.

After playing Sh4 with ROW you'd have to be insane to play SH3. Great gameplay yes but i'd rather wait for the Uboat add-on for SH4.

I havent ever played SH3.

I was exposed to subsims with Silent Service for NES. I started subsims seriously with AOD when i was little (had to have been bettween 10-12 years old). I got 688, SH2 and DC after that, fell in love with SH1 when I found a used copy because I love the PTO in all aspects. Im American, and to me its more fascinating warfare than the ETO with Naval battles, island hopping and the like.

I like the mystique of German boats, and am interested in getting back into them. Since Ive fully adapted to SH4 without ever having run SH3 Im wondering if its worth my effort. Ill always fall back on PTO and american boats....But I think I could have fun again deploying out of Norway or France. If im looking for some of the atmosphere and feel of AOD and the option to play Battle of the Atlantic or the Med is SH3 worth it? And to what extent is it mod dependent for useable, realistic play.

Untill then Ill be happily patroling warm south pacific waters.

Hah! I only play SHIII, don't play SHIV.

Something I don't understand is how people die in SHIV - if you can survive SHIII with NYGM then SHIV is a doddle, so much so it's simply not interesting, especially for me as I am something of a 'realism' junkie, and there are still some critical shortcomings in SHIV from my perspective that prevent me from enjoying it. As I've said, the nature of Pacific v Atlantic is that the Pacific needs to be substantially better done for it to hold lasting appeal for me and that simply is not the case at present.

Crew die in 4 alright. Hard to ignore the many many posts here to that effect. When set on full realism, just like III, some people say it's too easy, some say it's too hard. None-the-less, the Atlantic-only players are not missing anything in SHIV just as I'm not missing anything in SHIII.

I miss taking a u-boat through the English channel but I'm definately more of a pacific fan. If I lived in Europe i'd probably be an Atlantic man. SH3 being set in the atlantic didn't cause me to whine constantly though. No offense to anyone in particular but I really don't get the dislike for SH4. The last time I played SH3 it crashed as I was rotating my crew, the same CTD that came out of the box....

Yep I play SH3 cant seem to make it passed late '43 however. Never finished the war from start to finish. But I've already done that once in SH4 it was very very hard and had some mighty close calls. Love them both

yes is still play sh3 on occasion, but the pacific is much more up my alley... i find i must be one of the lucky few, since ive had very very few problems with sh4... i can count on one hand the number of CTDs i've had since the game launched. ( most of which were actually my fault), but to each their own..
