Magnetic Torpedoes Advice

What Golden Rivet said is true but remember early war torps are nortoriously unreliable, also remember if you are finishing off a merchant with a magnetic torpedo, the boat may have sunk a little to flooding so magnetic torp will just bounce off the side if the AOB isnt right.

Also mag torps also have an impact trigger as a back up!

thanks Irisch... excellent points i forgot to mention... as you can see the use of magnetic torpedos is more of an art than a science.

Yes, they do, but ship hulls are almost always curved near the keel. If a magnetic aimed beneath the keel hits the hull due to rough weather, more often than not, it just bounces off without detonation. At least that's been my experience.

I use magnetics if I have to shoot at destroyers. I would consider them for bad angle shots in good weather, if maneuvering to a better firing position wasn't an option for some reason (high target speed, for example).

thanks for all the input, comarades. Right now I am using impact and having success but this is only becuase I can get away with setting up within 1000 meters and 90 aob to the target. I tend to try to sink ships with only 1 fish. later in the war, i dont think this will be possible. I am thinking that when I need to shoot at 1500 - 2000 meters range at a full spread i will want to use magnetics and still achieve the 1 shot, 1 kill result. I hope I 'have a little Captain' in me, and his name is Kretschmer
