Thanks for sharing these pictures with us gents. All the photos were good. The shot of the Arizona Memorial (where you can see the sunken wreckage) reminded me of the first time I saw it in r/l. Was ship's company on the U.S.S. New Orleans and we stopped in at Pearl on the way home after a WestPac to pick up some Tigers and catch a couple days liberty in Hawaii before we returned to San Diego.

Will never forget the somber and sad mood that came over me as I pondered what those last few moments were like for the men trapped in the wreckage, who must have known their death was certain. What a way to go, poor souls all, may they rest in peace.

Regards

Greyrider,

We were transported to it via one of the U.S.S. New Orleans' ship-to-shore "skiffs" (I think that's what the squids called them) . I was a rifleman in an U.S.M.C. Honor Guard taking part in a memorial service for the fallen.

OT: I also had the honor of being in the rifle detail that gave the rifle salute at the dedication of the U.S. Marine Lebanon Memorial Monument in Osceola, Arkansas (1/15/84) during my period of active duty as a U.S. Marine. The memorial was for all the Marines killed in the Beirut barracks bombing.

These two experiences will go to my grave with me, I'll never forget them, or what they were about . . .

Regards
