Default **NEW** ATTACK PERISCOPE by Kapt.Klaus **NEW**

FIRST I Like to thank "Anvart" with out your help I could not have gotten the screen shot. Thanks to you for your automating. One other thing I have two scopes, if you could get each location to call up the correct scope... then we could have the attack and observation......just a thought.

You may not sell or try and or take credit for making this. However you are more than welcome to post this any where for download. I made this because I liked the feel/looks of a real periscope when I played SSI Silent Hunter. So I took a screen shot inside the command room on the ship in SH4 and used that for the back ground. Copy this file to your Silent Hunter 4 directory \Data\Menu\Gui\Layout
You may want to make a back up of your: Periscope_Mask_1024.dds first.
You will have to unzip it first.

Yes I added the picture of the Sub and the Captain's hat... I could not find a pic of a tan visor, so if someone know's where I can get one I will update this! Instead of the dress white.

Please let me know what you think here!

If you download the first scope.... on this and do not like the clear lense, re download again. I changed it back to a normal color instead. I decided I did not like the clear look..... If you did not download it before reading this post, then IGNORE this post you will be fine.

Please let me know if you like it. It helps me on further mods to have input. But if you post negitive input do it right by suggesting, not just complaining. Also if you don't have the skill to make a mod you should not really critize some one else's work. it makes them give up and EVERY MODDER should be in couraged!!!

Very cool And if you want to create a JSGME (JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler) version, just create a folder within a folder and name them as per the pathway you've shown ie: Kapt_Klaus_Attack_Periscope\Data\Menu\Gui\Layout\P eriscope_Mask_1024.dds

No probs. I'll wait 'till your update is out. Oh! it takes about one minute to create it. There's no need for my name to be included. I'm sure that many members create their own mod enabler version if they so desire.

Hi, Kapt.Klaus.
My opinion.
I like your 2D periscope without environment ...
This and
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=118821.
Because (without tricks) we can to have only 2 textures of 2D periscopes:
- for Attack Periscope (G26 Page attack periscope) and
- for Obs. Periscope (G2B Page obs. periscope).
The background of 3D periscopes depends on position of periscopes and from submarine interior (CT or CR).
Devs have made correctly not having shown an environment (background) of 2D periscope (i think)...
Try to make background bluring ...

Goodluck

Interesting post Anvart....initially I wasn't all that keen on what Kapt. Klaus was trying to achieve but now I think its a good idea. Having a bit of "sub interior" in the background around the periscope optic helps to maintain the immersion of "i'm in a sub, just below the surface, looking at a boat through a periscope"....whereas the single optic views we've seen to date are more "i'm looking at a boat through an optic but i could easily be on a raft in the ocean".

What might be cool is to use Shift F2 to "fly" to the raised scope and then take a picture of what can actually be seen of the interior of the boat from the periscope's position.

Perhapps even a slightly differerent background for each periscope, if its possible.

Thanks for the great compliments. I think I am going to start work on other mods.
I already have a couple I have not released yet.

I run 1280 by 960 for display.
