You may not sell or try and or take credit for making this. However you are more than welcome to post this any where for download. I made this because I liked the feel/looks of a real periscope when I played SSI Silent Hunter. So I took a screen shot inside the command room on the ship in SH4 and used that for the back ground. Copy this file to your Silent Hunter 4 directory \Data\Menu\Gui\Layout
You may want to make a back up of your: Periscope_Mask_1024.dds first. You will have to unzip it first. Please let me know what you think here! http:\\1944hq.net/images/Periscope_Mask_1024.zip Last edited by Kapt.Klaus; 07-18-2007 at 10:58 PM. |

That is an awesome piece of work, and im itching to try it out. If i like how it plays out in game, would you mind if i included it in Tmaru 1.3a? (modpack). Credit for the scope cited to you of course.

There's another periscope MOD out there ("better periscopes mod"???) that has really easy to see compass headings. Super large in the top of the periscope view. Lights up at night as well. I can't play without that MOD anymore. Some things relieve so much eye-strain it's no fun without them.
In the standard stock perscope i can barely read the numbers without making a considerable effort. And my eyesight is fairly good. I'm willing to sacrifice some asthetic realism for playability however. I understand the historical purist's mindset. Sometime though it results in tough to see things on a 19" monitor. |

Very Nice, indeed.
I also think Cpt.Sharkbait's idea of a shifting background would be awesome..can it be done? It would be a first in any subsim, would it not? |

Shifting background is in possible, because the periscope image is an over lay of the exterior position of the sub. There for it is out side. If I was to make so then you would have a periscope rotating in air with sea all around it. Yes it would rotate but all you would see is water and sky on either side.
I put my name in the mod so some one could not re post it some where and claim it as theirs. I spent a lot of time on it. I would be willing to remake one with out my name in it. Provided SubSim would post it on their main download page and give me credit. |
