I've never professed to understand the AI of aircraft entirely ....but having had similar experiences I put it down to the human eror that exists in all individuals from time to time (some people being more alert or better at observancy than others)

Not directly related, but a little story about that "human error".

When our destroyer was going to open fire there was always a warning: "All hands stand clear of the fo'c'sle while firing from Mount 51" (or fantail and Mount 52). This would give everyone time to be well away from the firing twin 5"/38 mount.

One day a shipmate and I were sitting on the forward chocks (small posts to tie the lines to), just talking. All at once the forward turret started to turn toward the shore, about ten feet away from us. Realizing what was happening we leaped up and ran through the door in the seawall behind the turret. We were just pulling the door closed when the warning came:

"All hands stand clear of the fo'c'sle while firing from..." BOOM!

My ears were ringing for hours afterward.

Well, I was ready to post a technical description of visual sensor challenges, but Hitman beat me to it. (Thank you sir. )

Instead, I will just say this.

Neener. Neener. Gotcha.

In all seriousness, the only way to "fix" the visual sensors may be to reintroduce other old problems like the vampire night vision.

Another note on player visual sensors. They are sensitive to the size, speed, and aspect ratio of the object to be spotted. (Just like the enemy AI in many ways) The same player visual sensors are used for all occasions, which also cases some quirks to appear.

We will do what we can to hit a happy medium. No doubt some will be okay with it and others not. Does anyone have some chicken wire and bubblegum that we can borrow? We could also use a harmonica player.

What is wierd is that on my 14th mission in mid 42 & have not seen a single enemy aircraft! Maybe just fluke, I have my sensors changed but this should have no effect. Have been stationed in Wilhelmshaven, Kiel, Lorient, & now La Spezia.
