I think it's definitely worth it now - there are a lot of steps forward in it. It's just that it's not as polished as SHIII is, but SHIII wasn't nearly polished 3 months after it came out. I would say SHIV was in a somewhat worse state before patch 1.2, but that's no longer the case. On the other hand it's not quite where it should be yet, but it will be soon and it's fun to play right now.
