In the deep channel leading up to Hudson Bay in my new IXC, I was at PD waiting for a large convoy to roll over me. After sitting there for some time, I suddenly saw one after another red ship sunk marker appear. After less than 10 seconds, 6 markers were there.
That's some going, and one torpedo one ship unless the timings happened to coincide (or there were 2 U-boats ![]() Anyway, the now zig-zagging convoy rolled over me and consisted almost entirely of medium cargos with a couple of Liberty cargos on the fringes. Wonder what the other six ships were...:hmm: Great sense of being part of a larger picture though. I guess this is part of the contribution of GWX? Excellent stuff! |

You found yourself a wolfpack. Either that or Hermann's Fly boys stole a squadron of B24's and went long range huntin'.:rotfl:
BBW will know for sure if it's a wolfpack that far west. |

In GWX every patrol is different, always some sort of surprise pops up.

I have encountered convoys with a circle as their symbol on a couple of occasions as well and I'm pretty sure there was no submarine in the convoy....
There were U-boats present though.....I'll post some screenies if I can recreate it!

The radio reports ( which give you the map update and symbol ) come from the lead unit
If its a sub its round A merchant and shows as a convoy A warship and shows as a TF The Sub wont necessarily be in the middle of the convoy as its classed as a warship so will usually be in one of the outer rows AI subs tend to run a little slower than the speed they are given so by the time you get to the convoy the sub will have dropped back slightly Or be dead lol |

There is an AI sub attached to the SC convoys passing through there on that date
Only one though so he was either very good or the escorts took out a couple of other ships in their haste to shoot As the AI does ![]() |

Oooops
![]() My apologies, geography let me down. Was St Lawrence Bay not Hudson Bay! Guess the same might apply or are there more Kamerads that bit further south? |

A little update.
Just for fun I re-ran the convoy intercept last night. This time, 5 ships went down as the convoy approached. I was drifting at PD and was not bothered by any warships as I infiltrated between the columns of remaining ships. This time I targetted a large cargo, a medium tanker and a Liberty, two torpedos each. As I went down to 100m, the large cargo and the Liberty sank. A while later I got an amazing number of explosions and a video of what I took to be the tanker burning (with only one hit, the other looked like it bounced off maybe due to the heavy seas). Anyway the ship sank but my Log showed a medium cargo. On the map it was grey not red so not sure what was going on. Anyway 24000+ tons for me plus 5 ships already sunk by others. The really interesting bit was that as I slipped away I got contacts for not one but two Type VIICs behind the convoy, one heading north and the other west and both at exactly the same time. Did a lot of VIICs head over that far? I thought IXs (like my IXC) were the weapon of choice for this destination... |

Type VII U boats made it to American water as well; although officialy beyond their reach; they stowed fuel and provisions in every conceivable place and could make the trip...
There were 'Milchkuhe' too, providing necesarries at designated meeting points along the way.
