Silent Hunter is, traditionally, a World War Two sim. What you say may be fun, but under a different name.

Now you're looking at many dozens of active interiors plus hiring all the voice actors for the different nations. Are you willing to pay $500 for the sim?

so long as it's contemporary, or even if the cold war turned hot. WW2 is gettin kinda old
Again, sounds good, but not for Silent Hunter.

My take is that SH5 will have to wait for the next generation of graphics and design, and then start over one more time; as mentioned probably not for several years in the future. World War 2 never gets old.

You wouldn't say that if you played DW in multiplayer.
:hmm: probably not, hence my nic

Seawolf would be good, but i thought that was a made up name, along with everything else, for the series J.A.G.

I wouldn't be holding my breath for a DW2. Sonalysts is out of the game making business now,due to the poor sales of DW.

It would be great a full submarine game with sh3 and sh4 campaign merged.

A modern submarine could be cool too , but the units and warfare systems are more complex, like towed array sonars, countermesures, homing torpedoes, radio and radar detection , missiles...:hmm:

this can make the develop work a lot more difficult than a ww2 submarine.

Dw is great as a simulator but the graphics are not very good , and today it is a very important factor. People now wants great graphics, if the graphics are poor, only attracts hardcore players.

SH5 = back to the atlantic

= SH3 with all the still-existing bugs removed to make it the first bug-free Silent Hunter sim that Ubi-scoff ever put on the market.

I think that it would be cheaper for Ubisoft to make SH5 on current engine (expanded with DX10) than writing a whole new engine.
There are two options: one is SH5 in 2009-10 (SH3/4 engine), second: SH5 in 2017-20 (new engine)

SH5...

Call it .... Silent Hunter / Killer - Focus on hot(ish) cold war SSN's like Seawolf / Virginia and the Russian eqivs...(no missle boats - so still have sub / surface engagements but now thrill of sub / sub ones too) <tingle tingle>

Gods...I'd pay four times the av game price for SH3 / 4 immersion / graphics based in this 'new' world...

just my 0.02 cents...

A cruiser sinks like a cruiser).

I would say that SH5 should port over the existing ship models, add new subs from different countries, and focus on the realism and gameplay aspects. It might even generate broader international appeal and sales that way.
If you think about it, SHIII and SHIV already model the entire world - and Dangerous Waters doesn't, at least not in one open environment.

74 boats lost out of 206 in service, 3,142 men killed (one in three of all who served) plus 359 captured. 2 million tons sunk, 38 enemy subs and 40 major surface warships sunk. More hits per torpedo fired than any other navy. Hardly a minor combatant Steve. No offence taken, just setting the record straight.

It has to be WW2. Pre radar is where the fun is for me. You have to get so close that you can smell the smoke from the merchants. Of course I`m most interested in the German u-boats and I would love a SH5 with AI wolfpacks.

SH5 (if it will ever emerge) should, in my opinion, be based in modern times. This of course brings a LOT more programming to the fray, as there are many, many more options in modern subs compared to WW2 boats, but earlier sims like 688 and Fast Attack *oooh!* proved that it's possible - and attractive.

So I say: take Fast Attack as a basis and work from there. I'll happily provide the scenarios
