so, SH5 should be next
and based on, in part, on a series of books by Joe Buff. read one which was rather quite good. it's set around 2012 with Germany and South Africa allied, (read Axis), and the russians conveniently neutral but supplying them. they're worth a read

Yes, back in the Atlantic with U-boats. SHV, sometime in the year 2009.

Actually, I wonder if it might not be feasible to model the entire world (like Dangerous Waters), and focus on multiple nations submarines (Royal Navy, US Navy, Kriegsmarine, Soviet Navy, Japanese Navy, Italian Navy) , even if it is at the expense of the variety of other shipping (it really doesn't matter to me much if there are 5 types of merchants or 15 types, and similarly, I don't really care if each countries navy has only 1 or 2 examples of each warship class. A cruiser sinks like a cruiser).
I would say that SH5 should port over the existing ship models, add new subs from different countries, and focus on the realism and gameplay aspects. It might even generate broader international appeal and sales that way. |

Dont count on an sh5 - SH4 wll really have to impress some suits (post 1.3) and make massive sales for sh5 to occur. If is does - a total world with the ability to play multiple sides would be likely - due to the ever increasing size and scope of games. If it occurs we would likely see campaigns for both the Axis and Allies. Perhaps even a strategic layer with some controls - a nod to Pacific Storm perhaps.
But again - dont count on it. As for making it anything but ww2 - not with the Silent Hunter name - its "brand" is associated with the time period and companies dont like to deviate from a "branding". If you want ww3 - there are some games out there that are more adaptable for such things - the Dangerous Waters type side of things. On a side note - did anyone notice DW was basically a mixture of Janes Fleet Command and 688I with some graphic improvements and a few new controllable vessels? |
any idea when DW'll be released? many not need SH5 if it's soon:hmm:. something tells me this is download only:x
