I'm sorry it's not working out for you. Look over to the SH4 mod forum, they have quite a few game improvements either in the works or completed. Your wrong about SH3 though; It was just as buggy when it was initially released. Was wondering if you could do me a favor though? Wait until the patch is released before you post another 'screw this' post! There are a lot of guys who do enjoy the game... Thanks

This is just getting ridiculous.

I guess I'm ****ed, my first partrol for my fifth career on my way home after a sucessful insertion of spec ops. It only took one plane *a scout I guess*, not an air group that did this damage. It was spotted by watch and not the radar, I went ahead flank and hard to port. I'm pretty sure I dodge the bullet because there is no visible damage models on my sub. Yet I get this damage.

I'm a sitting duck now.

Oh yeah I shot down that zero.

A bullet did this to you?

Single aircraft have been proven to sink all types of subs including the IXC...

See a plane, dive, don't shoot. You'll live longer.

Lucky zero depth charge me.

But can they do this 99% of the time I don't think so, Luck and skill I say.

I'm not going to make it, My engine comp. is flooded, Control rm: 80% Aft.Torp: 60%

P.s wouldn't matter, it takes the same time to dive as if I were to shoot it. He was short range, so it only took seconds before he drop that charge near my stern.

After 16 hours I got the bulkheads' secured, the main pumps are up and running. But I have no diesels, they have been destroyed and my eletrics are gone too. I can't call home for a tow and theres no end patrol.

Now what?

edit:
Too late now, Planes got me again, too bad theres not option to call home for a tow or abandon ship.

Oh yeah I got court-martial for it too.

1969, my sub spent 30 days submerged in a Cambodian harbor. With 10 feet between the keel and the bottom.
During the day we shot photos of ships coming in with contbrand, to be off loaded and move down the Ho Minh Trail to Vietnam.
At night we would leave the Harbor, to bring up the snorkel to get fresh air and recharge the batteries. Only to go back into the harbor again to get the shots. It was the defining moment for Pres. Nixon to decide to bomb Cambodia...So when you silently move into position to get those photos or drop off a team, just try to remember what 70+ guys were doing down under the water just hoping they wouldn't caught....."DBF"
Out of curiosity, what did you guys do? It seems to me like the only people honestly buisy would be in the control room. Were the rest of you napping or trying to will yorselves from being discovered?

There is a Mod that reduces the frequency of those fu*peeep* Air attacks. I would not leave Port without it.
Another hint: Leave port. Go surfaced until your get attacked by an Aircraft. That means you are in Range of an Airbase. Now Dive at dawn to 20m (66 feet), set speed to slow, surface at dusk and go standard ahead.

Works great for me.

Diving at or just before/after dawn was the doctrine employed by USA subs.

Use the map to see where air cover is - usually anywhere West of 150E longitude.

Reduce time compression - my radar sucks at anything over 256x, and is generally only completely reliable at 64x. Even then there are some curious blind spots. Oh, and SD radar shouldn't give bearings either as it was A-scope in nature.

In short, game is pretty crap now from a quality point of view. Will see what happens with 1.2. Go to the mod forum and have a read - many problems are being fixed there.

Cheers

The forced retirement issue is perhaps the biggest issue making SH4 unplayable.

Logic would dictate it would be high on the list of "things to do" in the 1.2 patch.

Counter that vs the performance of the dev's thus far and conclude it prolly wont be fixed.

The crew management & development was a key factor in player attachement to SH3. Take that away and you may as well be playing a nintendo game.

Well sub commanders didn't go through the whole war...it has already been mentioned and is not a bug as such.
