Default Geeze guys lighten up

I didn't even get to respond to the message Neal put up from the Dev team before he had to lock it.

Devs:
Thank you for working on the FSAA and low resolution problem. My tired, old eyes thank you.

Yes, I can agree that the majority of the later posts in the thread, including my own, can be described by "Geeze" as they were mostly off topic.

This forum has a lot of settled members battling it out with pros. and cons. and it is of course their right to do so, but except for giving criticism on the initial release what can we criticise about the lasting potential of SH IV currently? There's not much that could not be modded with SH III and SH IV seems to be using a very similar file system, judging by what the modding crew is posting on the mod forums.

Ubisoft is fixing the FSAA and some other hard coded issues apparantly and the SH IV and Subsim community is diving in on the host of other issues. I'd say that within months the SH IV experience will be a few steps closer to its full potential and that the experience will gradually improve.

There's one thing to keep in mind: bi'tching usually doesn't actually solve anything, hence why Neal was so wise to ask us to state any criticism politely and to try and present positive criticism. Neal even managed to establish contact with the developers so we could voice our opinions, but we (yes, we) ruined that chance.

Perhaps we should all have a glass of our favourite beverage and lean back just a little: although the majority of the criticism is perfectly justified, it is probably hitting Ubisoft Romania harder than it should. It's not them that cut their own time and money, so we owe them a break. Heck, we wouldn't be complaining or enjoying SH IV at all had they not done anything.

As such, there are two likely paths we can take as a community: we can support Ubisoft Romania with positive criticism (that means politely addressing the problems you encounter, so no "ZOMG this is teh suckzorz" threads), cut the fanboy and counter-fanboy threads down like weed on a flower garden and support the modding community (the exact same behaviour a portion of the community is showing now is the reason there'll be no SH IV Commander by the author of SH III Commander, a loss to the community that we should not repeat).

Ubisoft itself has more or less admitted that there were problems with the initial release, and the subject has been torpedoed roughly once per hour in the last few days. Let's live with what we have and can have in the near future, instead of living in the past of the less than stellar release.

OR

We can continue our endless ramblings which probably don't contribute all that much to both the community as well as the future developments of the game.

If all of this sounds ridiculous: perhaps it should sound ridiculous. In my opinion, even as a new member, we need to take a break and enjoy a weekend without huge amounts of bi'tching.

So: have a nice weekend, captains.

I have many, MANY issues with the game when first loading it up and getting it started, from the feel to some graphics etc etc. And of course I hate a half baked game being released.

Having said that, I am glad to see the devs are stepping up to address these problems and concerns. I HAVE bought games where the devs have not addressed the problems and the game is downright unplayable. But the devs are working hard to address the hard code issues and I'm glad to see it.

Those that mod things around here are also working hard to address some issues they feel they can get on. All and all, I'm willing to give both the devs and the modders patience. I've seen this community work god-like wonders, and I actually didn't expect the devs to try and fix the resolution and AA problem.

All and all, there are A LOT of problems, but I'm not worried. I'm going to give them time to work it out.

I have a mid range system and have taken SH4 out for a 45 min spin.

No problems at all.

(P4 2.0 - 1gig - Radeon X1600 512 - windows XP sp2)

I guess some problems will always show up but so far with the 1.1 patch all is well.

Some of the glitches I have never seen like the 2d crew and bad sound, cartoony graphics I don't see?...I will keep my eyes and ears open.

I like how they had a patch ready...just because the DVD went to "press" didn't stop the boys/girls from continuing to work on the patch. I appreciate it, bought game, downloaded patch, installed game, installed patch.

COULD BE WAY WORSE!: I also have "STALKER" and the game is not playable out of the box with stutters and crashes...(no patch even mentioned yet) lucky I got SH4 the same day...so guess what I'm playin!

PS. went out and sunk a destoyer...(on easy though) and then a ship came up behind me as I fumbled with my controls...and it ran me over!!! My sub bobbed and weaved under the water....awesome!

The weird thing is on my crappy PC it auto-set to Medium settings...really nice graphics...you guys with super high settings musty be in heaven.

On medium I see the guys on deck, placton in the water, nice reflections, great air explosions with the planes, rusting rivits on my sub...and more to see over the weekend.

Thanks for helping us!

The ONLY thing I would want added...and it's not really possible is the missing animations of the crew guys getting in the sub or jumping off a ship!

Cool !
