The high levels of fitness is what precludes the older folks.

Hey guys, Gizzmoe, Waste Gate... you will never know if you don't try.

I smoke cigars, and cigarettes, when mood takes me, I don't exactly eat as healthily as I could or should.

Booze you can do without surprisingly easy, I don't drink at all now, and I don't miss it. I'd miss having a puff on the weekends, but I can do without drink easily enough.

Diet being the key one, you don't have to suddenly change to rabbit food, but, less is more if you see what I mean. And you do appreciate the food you get, diets are easy enough to set up and you can stick to with a bit of discipline.

I think moderation is the key, no reason why you can't have a smoke, eat decent food and still be in pretty decent condition.

Sounds like me - except about 25 lbs overweight (more on this in a sec) and I don't smoke.

Now on to my thoughts - I think the weight guidlines are a little messed up. I'd look like a string bean if I followed them - I am 5' 9", so they say I should be 150 lbs? Come on! What are they thinking??? I am fine at 175 lbs. I feel good. I feel like my weight is in appropriate proportion to my height, and I discount their idea of what is considered overweight. I have no desire to be 150 lbs.

Am I the only on that feels this way?

-S

PS. I have been known to have a good cigar coupled with a good bottle of cab - so the smoking thing is not entirely true.

No this whole BMI thing is messed up. I don't think it takes into account of build structure either. You can be too thin as well, I am a firm believer of that.

Nothing like a good cigar either.

I'm just right. I'm fit enough to were my pants fit as well as my shirts. I'm tall enough for my legs to reach the ground. What more do I need?

I'll take a Punch cigar and Johnny Walker scotch.....hold the water in the scotch..straight is fine.

I know, I know... I was in good shape once, but that´s like 22 years ago. I´m too lazy, that´s the only problem.

All you need to do is start slowly by just walking more then slowly step it up to walking a doing a bit jogging and the take it from there.
Thats what i did, I have not been very fit all my life i had to work very hard at my fitness or my job i have now. But the great thing is that i feel so much better in myself now that im more healther than i was before i have a spring in my step that i never had before.

Well... to be honest I think the only reason I started to attempt to be fit was to try and balance out the vices I previously listed, but, the more you do it, the more enjoyable it is to get into shape. When you exercise your brain releases feel good chemicals, I mean you know, at least you still have a chance now. I can't really talk, I am not Miss Fitness UK, but, well... I refuse to deprive myself of the things I like too.

Moderation!

I hear ya - nothing like the combo - Cabernet and Cigars seem to compliment each other to no end. Couple this to a sunny evening, just after a good filet, and life is very good! I typically get Arturo Fuente because I typically like the way they do their Dominican wrappers, but I have also been known to smuggle into the country the occasional Romeo y Julieta #2. I only buy only a couple incase they find them - they will conviscate them at the airport if they do find them. This Cuban embargo needs to go away. Castro is practically dead already anyway. Last time at the airport, the bomb screener picked me at random (first time ever) while in line, and it was a good thing since it allowed me to bypass the airports new x-ray machine (when did that go in??), and I think 2 metal cigar tubes would probably stick out like a sore thumb on that thing! I get lucky like this though, so it is expected.

I like oily Cuban wrappers! I still have a few older bottles of Stonestreet - Cab and Merlot Cab waiting on a good Cuban, some bottles going as far back as 1995. Seems I have to make a trip again to solve that little problem!

PS. Way to get me off topic!

Sorry to rain on your parade folks I used to know three fit guys younger than me and in the last ten years all three have died. And of three went to the gym

Stuff all the gym rubbish, all you need is a good walk everyday and drink lots of water.

And no smoking and no fast junk food.
