Default The Honour of deck guns...

Am I not the only person who loves engaging targets with a deck gun where ever reasonably possible? In my mind there is no better way to add to your tonnage using the good 'ole weapon..
When the weather works with you (a rarity, I know) you can rack up a quite impressive patrol tonnage when added to your torpedo kills.
Whats the most tonnage anyones sank with a deck gun?

I totally agree.

One patrol, over the course of a couple of days of great weather, i came upon 5 small merchants and sank them with the deck gun. Great fun!

the best is when you aim at their cargo after peppering the waterline with shots, and a giant fireball shoots up into the sky!!! Man I love that....

I love using the deck gun. In my current career though I used a Type II for my first 16 patrols. Now that I've got a Type VII I rarely find unescorted targets to use my deck gun on. Radar is just coming out and it's making any kind of surface attack suicidal. I'll probably keep installed so I can hurt stragglers though I guess.

Here's a question. If I remove my deck gun using SH3C does it improve my underwater performance?
If so it might be coming off rather soon.

Your anti-aircraft guns will blow up deck cargo, but rarely sink anything other than VERY small trawlers, tugs, fishing boats, etc. From coastal vessels on up, go with the deck gun and HE rounds, rather than AP rounds.

I have sank Elco Torpedo boats with the Flak gun but I never had
any luck with merchants. My only 100k patrol I had was in a type IX and
I sailed back to base completely out of torpedos and deck gun ammo.
This was pre GWX.

IXBs 37mm will punch holes in most things I've found, even the largest tankers.

But, being 37mm, it's not a very big hole, but gives you something to do between 105 reloads

Yup, love the deck guns. Actually had four straight days of good weather - I mean water like glass - off the coast of Ireland in October 1940. Unreal. Lots of tonnage.

But I never use the deck gun during the day, and I never engage warships with it (unless I'm about to die anyway, and it's the whole "and for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee" thing.)
