The depth of the ocean in SH2 where your cursor is hovering, was located on the mini-map in the lower right. Yeah...too bad you can't drop notes in SH3. Some good ideas get left behind. I miss the logbook in the captain's cabin..However, remember, in reality no navy in WW2 had charts so good that they showed the exact depth everywhere.

There were a lot of good things in SHII that were left behind--Pity. But I'm glad the DDs that could see you behind islands are gone

I had to laugh Brag. I recall being in a Fjord in Norway in SH2 and trying to sneek up on some merchants located up stream. I thought - the DDs are on the other side of this large island - no problemo. Then I start hearing the thunderous sound of DDs cranking up - they were always loud in SH2. And this noise when on for ever as I slowly made my way under the surface thinking they'd never make it into the narrow channel I was in. Then suddenly the noise got very loud and sure enough a quick look outside (of course from under water since you could not see top side from underwater in SH2) revealed the long underside of a DD's hull racing toward me in my 20 meters deep water!
I still have to laugh, cause I don't know how that silly DD made it around into that tight water way when in other wider areas I had seen them run aground. In fact as it dumped its DCs that killed me it did next run into the shore line - cause it was a small area. |

SHII itself wasn't really impressive, but when the mods came out it rocked.
Aces campiagn & Pacific Aces campaign were the main ones i used but their were plently more great mods. Another good thing was they coded SHII to play alongside Destroyer Command game over the net or Lan, nothing beats playing against a mate whos hunting you in the fog in his destroyer. ![]() I thought they were going to bring out Destroyer Command II for Silent Hunter III but sadly that never happened. Maybe DCII for SHIV:hmm: |

The Norwegian campaign in SHII was a hoot. Ships running aground all over the place. I nestled my boat next to a beached battleship and fired one round from my deck gun. Another BB kept firing at the Battleship, behind which I was hiding. When the BB was destroyed , I got credit for the Kill
