I've just finished 5th patrol (June 1940) in a VIIb and bagged over 100k tonnage. I was close a couple of times before but it's now that i finally passed that mark. And it feels gooooood!!!

My last patrol off Haliflax baged me 125k. Two convoys came through, The first was in deep water and I got inside and ripped the guts out of it. No small ships, just large tankers, Pryo's, Large Merchants and Large Cargo's. Seven ship sunk and two damaged. All internal torps expended.
I contiued my cruise to my patrol area, which stayed stormy and in heavy for for the whole time. Bagged a costal tanker by sheer luck in a period were the sea carmed down. I did get another contact, but it was a hospital ship. Uncle Karl would be upset if I sank that. I started to head home, detouring back to where I wa sucessful before, stayed a couple of days but had no luck, so I set course for home. I run into a convoy a day after leaving my former hot spot. A nice lage convoy! Water depth is only 60 meters, so this will be interesting! Bag 4 more, Two Large tankers, a large cargo and a heavy cargo. Now out of torpedos, and my deck gun wasn't an option, it was time to leave. One Escort did get a sniff of me, and put a couple of DC near, but I was able to give him the slip before help arrived (in the form of 2 Destroyers). Managed to sink two passanger/cargo vessels with my deck gun on the way home. I then almost run into another convoy which is being trailed by a wolf pack. I steer clear as I have nothing to offer except being a target. Not bad for mid 1942 in an IXC boat! ![]() |
