You could always just leave the charge air on. The thing to think about is the snorkel system and what happens when water gets into it...just ask about popped ear drums around here. At a depth setting of 56 feet, I can raise my snorkel and only be seen for split seconds. I admit it's a pain to start at 80% as SOP has HP air bank levels to be kept.

In heavy sea states, it should be difficult to maintain steady depth when you're up around the chop. This is a welcome improvement.

Yes, a great improvement. Being surfaced makes it that more interesting. How not to become sea sick . If it's safe to do so I re-charge whilst surfaced under those conditions.
