Keeping a boat trimmed was such a delicate thing that even the cook had to keep a log of what provisions he used for every meal and where in the boat he got them from so they could manage the weight balance!

I got a really good impression of how delicate it was when I read Das Boot. I never thought that moving a sack of potatoes from fore to aft would have an effect. I also never thought about the sudden weight loss when firing torpedoes and having to pump large amounts of water in very quickly to stop the boat breaching the surface. It's a fascinating read and you get all the detail on life in a sub that the film couldn't capture....why do I get the feeling this post should be in another certain thread...

I personally use NYGM's 'Anti-hummingbird Mod' because it reminds me of the way Aces Of the Deep used to make me feel. Of course before that I just said "this isn't right" and never stopped underwater.

If you manage it properly and you stop in the path of a convoy you can decimate almost everything
