Ahoy there,
I found my SH3 in a local games/video/music store. I just had to check it out since i bought my new machine.
But i started my subsim adventure with Silent Service on Commodore 64. Aaah... those were the days!
Although i have to agree with Abd von Mumit, SH2 had a lot of aspects covered better than SH3 (for example names of sunken ships are being displayed at the end of patrol).
Yeah i know, i've been reading this forum since SH2 been issued, but never a part of it, so here we are...
I think this GWX mod (absolutely briliant by the way) got me into it and i'm quite enjoying both game and this site.

Cheerio to all Kaleuns! Keep them fish runnin' straight and fast!

I'm new and still in the Academy, so I'm not technically even a Kaleun yet. The uncut version of Das Boot did it to me. After five hours with the Old Man and the "children's crusade" I just had to have more. Went to YouTube and saw some of Stabiz's videos - and that did it.

Now I'm just trying to get my mods set up so I don't have to relearn everything later. So far just GWX.

Guten Abend!

I've always loved military simulations, and amongst other games like the Panzer General series, I've been playing SH2 and SH3 since shortly after they respectively came out. In that respect, I'm not really a new Kaleun, but I am new to SubSim. My wife will confirm that I am extremely addicted!

It was late last year that I stumbled across SubSim as part of a Google search for information regarding a particular mission. Since then, I downloaded GW and GWX, and they are magnificent!

Many thanks to the GWX team for a masterful enhancement to the already fantastic SH3 experience. Keep up the good work!

Cheers,

Tim.

Hi to all kaleuns

Picked up the game at ridicously low price of £6 around Christmas :p
Always been WW2 "Game" fan
Il2 Sturmovik,FB,PF,Pe-2,1946
Call of Duty,CoDUO,CoD2
Sudden Strike (nearly but not quite enough.... )
Tried SH2 late 05 but couldn't get past RED SCREEN with pic of Sub on it

Found SubSim through previous info from my "flying" buddies
GWX recommended and linked by mr chris as well as Dec 23 patch
AI tricky but not pulling off impossible stunts like il2 series

WTH... Welcome aboard, all the new guys from all over the world!

Isn't it amazing? Americans, Scandinavians, Germans, Slavians, Australians, Japanese, Indonesians, Jews/Israelis, Romanians, Russians... All of them in the same forum. Will I'll ever be able to finally believe it? (when are we going to meet any French here?)

perhaps the french could bring their own subs I'd love a go in the surcouf.

Oh, back to thread I played sh1 and destroyer command (and IL2 like nearly everyone ) before i found SH III while looking for xmas prezzies (mummy like Atlantic war books) so just bought it for myself

Got GWX now so keep dying because I can't resist taking on convoys in the shallows.

Work in London so if anyone wants to arrange a drink up sometime....

Is the passport yours? I've got a Greek one, for example, bought for 1 Deutsch Mark at Omonoia Square, Athens... :rotfl:

Got over the game at a game store where they sold it for 50 Norwegian Kroner (about 7-8 USD).

Bought it, tried it, loved it!

I don't think it's possible to mention all of them. Some of the names I wouldn't probably even recognize if we started to list them all. It's also sometimes quite hard to state, what "own country" is, escpecially for a left-minded guy of mixed origin that sings "Internationale" on his morning shave, crash dives in a nazi submarine, votes for liberals party (no other choice, ghrrr...), hates [auto-censored] and loves Latin. :rotfl:

I could add Syria to the list of countries, as I made (ad I mean it) two of my Syrian friends to 'have a look at this marvellous forums'. They play SH3 but refuse to register here.

Maybe we should start a list of countries of SH3 players somewhere here?

PS. I remembered just a while ago a guy I met in Israel. He called himself a Morrocan and insisted that his name is: Idu Luciano Dante Porteleoni-Cohen. "Why Morrocan", I asked, "You're Jewish as were your parents and grandparents!". He answered: "But my family used to live in Morroco, then they moved to Italy in XIIth century...". I love this! :rotfl:
