New Kaleuns Report Here
I've gotten the feeling there's a lot of new kaleuns lately who have come to SH3 for the first time recently. So I'd like to ask how many out there have started playing SH3 in the last three months for the first time? And what brought you to SH3?
Thanks ahead of time for your responses.... :) |
Greetings;
I picked up the game around Christmas time to check out, glad I did. Had SHII installed for a time on the last pc. Then I built a new machine with more then enough nads for this game. Motherboard uses AGP but its a good 256 ATI card, couldn't see tossing it. I also use a 17" CRT, maybe it's me but I think they are much better for games. I have an interest in U-Boats that well, probably has alot to do with a similar interest in World War history. Every game has a few issues, but it is a game and I plan to have some fun with it. SHIII allows us to play the game with plenty off settings or levels, plus there's good talent to be found in these mods. |
Hi all - many of you know me already since I've asked so many questions.
I picked up the game last week after perusing these forums as a lurker and doing a little research. It turns out Kretschmer worked on AOTD and I'm pretty sure another U-boot ace skipper worked on SH2, and I wanted of course to get the most intense experience in simulation. The reason I wanted to pick up a U-boot sim? I come from a family of submariners, and I recently saw the completely uncut version of Das Boot. I think the movie is an incredible metaphor for personal trauma, and what one has to do to make "something out of nothing" in one's life. I have to admit that going to external cameras and seeing a fast-steaming destroyer prowling around with a floodlight was chilling to say the least. The game is an amazing experience. + it's quite cool there's a supportive bunch of cats on this who can help me with my frustration at the inadequate manual...it's a little too silent as well!! cheers |
Picked it up less than a month ago. I always wanted to play SH3 since it came out as I played SH1 last time on my cousin's com,had a blast.
Saw SH3 on the rack,begged my parents and presto! SH3! :D |
Got it at Christmas (present from my wife :D). Spent the last few years flying in Il2 but was aware of SH3, just didn't get round to it.
So first thing I saw was no swastikas on German flags, didn't look right so I looked for an enabler (just like I had for Il2 ;)) and found GWX! Wow was I pleasantly surpised! GWX was installed for mission 3 of training, SH3 Commander soon after. So I can't fairly judge the original SH3 but it makes what came after possible... Great game, brilliant modding community and great forum here with lots of helpful people (Ubi forum seems good as well, as is the Il2 one if you like a bit of variety entertainment with your advice). My thanks to everyone involved! |
Started about 1-2 months ago. What brought me to SH3? Simply SH2 that is in my opinion in some aspects better than SH3 (at least the stock version). :)

I believe I used to have this game, or one just like it, when I had an Amiga, some years back now, and the thrill of that game, even though it was nothing like as good as the present one graphically, has stayed in my memory. So I finally decided I would buy SH and see what it was like now, on the PC. That was months ago. It just sat on the shelf because I was so busy fixing folks computers I did not have the time or energy for any R&R, and my 'other' game X3 ( space sim) was also languishing. Then, about three weeks or so ago, I just DID it ( the computer stuff has eased off now),I installed it, ran it, enjoyed it, and THEN found GWX and this forum and profited hugely from all the help and encouragement I have found here, so now I am 'hooked' and enthused and can't leave it alone.

I started having bought the game when it first came out but only started to play it a few months ago having upgraded my computer to handle it. I think it is great, the best part is the unknown of it all, what a great game wish i had more time but work takes a lot of my time, and i am moving to Aussie soon so a few months before i get my computer shipped out. I shall miss it but hope to back here soon.

Hi guys,
Got my Silent Hunter III and installed it with GWX about two weeks ago. Great game. I really love it. I played subsims before (Wolfpack, Silent Hunter) and when SH II was released I wanted to buy it, but unfotunatelly no game shop was willing to ship it to my country, due to fear of piracy I guess. Then SH III was released, but I still had the same problem, I just couldn't buy it from overseas. So when I heard that a friend of mine in the UK was coming home to visit his family I asked him to buy the game for me. I guess I just love sub sim:D edit: How do you pronounce Kaleun? |
I bought the game for myself at Christmas after checking for the highest game reviews for Sims, plus wanted to have a good game like this to play with my son in law who was visiting for the holidays. We never did get it working over the lan but I really got into it over the next several weeks.
About 3 years ago I also got into the Sim B-17 II since my father was a B-17 pilot. Like someone said above I am a WWII history buff and follow all aspects of it. There was a forum like this that planned missions which were posted Fridays and you had 3-4 days to fly the missions and post your results (no on-line playing capabilities. It wa called Bombs-Away.net. Several years ago I also watched and episode on the History Channel called "Weapons of War - the Ballistic Missile Submarine". A great story that had many roots from Germany and WWII and talked about the life cycle of the submarine and how it evolved into the most leathal weapon ever devised. Pretty amazing. That's my story. |

I'd played Silent Service a loooong time ago on the Atari ST and thoroughly enjoyed it. When SHIII was released (I completely missed I and II) I thought about it but didn't think I had the time to dedicate to another sim. When the price came right down, though, I thought 'what the heck' and purchased it. It's been in my DVD drive ever since...! :o

Hi all, finally stopped lurkin' and decided to report for duty! Well actually realised it was about time I broke radio silence to acknowledge the hard quality work that you guys are doing here both in the EXCELLENT mods and good advice/support!
Been beneath the waves since late eighties via Silent Service and a C64 and enjoyed all the sims that matter since. I have to say the bar just keeps getting raised! Looking forward to spending some time here ! :yep: |
