Honestly I hope they clean the canal up so one could plot a course and not worry about the hidden lighthouses and harbors in fact if they could make it just a straight shot with no turns and deep enough that you could dive to say 30 meters and avoid any traffic in the canal.
Just a idea for GWX:hmm: ![]() ![]()

Anyway was just for pointing it out, I never use the canal myself... Am not a fan of the type II tin can and start my careers in Wilhelmshaven by 2nd flotilla with a VIIb.

There is more than enough room to pass ships in the Kanal
The trouble is the AI avoidance routines dont let you just pass close by to another moving unit The AI unit will always try to avoid you and ends up beaching itself The Kanal ingame is already wider than the original |

I did try adding the historical sailings through but as I explained above the AI collision routines kick in if you come across one and they back up into the banks Doesnt look too good to see the pride of the Kreigsmarine reversing out of the way of your humble uboat instead of just flattening you:rotfl: ![]() |

:hmm: takes me aout 10 - 15 mins to navigate the canal
If you use SH3commander you can up " When near land " figure in time compression Or just alter the " Land proximity " setting in main.cfg I have mine on 256 and breeze through the canal If you use NYGM it has an auto plot feature so you dont even need to add waypoints GWX will also have this feature |

23 dec. 1939.
Back home from patrol 4. Nothing happened, but still a thrilling experience... ![]() Now to finish this waypoint thing. The last waypoint is placed just east of Helgoland, like this ![]() The "Helgoland Mark" is for testing purpose only... it doesn't matter where you save. Save/exit SH3 and the saved [savedname].map file has waypoints like this: [Waypoint] PointsNb=2 Pt0=930702.80,6485124.90,-3.64 Pt1=970963.00,6484627.50,0.00 Keep the saved Pt0 waypoint (ships position) and replace with this list: ; notice updated PointsNb... [Waypoint] PointsNb=68 ; insert your saved waypoint Pt0 here: Pt1=955550.38,6484650.00,0.00 Pt2=997202.75,6483137.50,0.00 Pt3=1032102.75,6477737.50,0.00 Pt4=1047406.75,6473625.00,0.00 Pt5=1062006.75,6464825.00,0.00 Pt6=1077006.75,6463725.50,0.00 Pt7=1090157.75,6464896.00,0.00 Pt8=1095517.75,6465416.00,0.00 Pt9=1098046.75,6468065.50,0.00 Pt10=1101807.13,6470136.50,0.00 Pt11=1104727.13,6472056.50,0.00 Pt12=1110946.63,6476383.50,0.00 Pt13=1115086.63,6479903.50,0.00 Pt14=1117206.63,6484674.00,0.00 Pt15=1118546.63,6488554.00,0.00 Pt16=1119246.63,6489934.00,0.00 Pt17=1120846.63,6492374.00,0.00 Pt18=1122164.00,6494920.00,0.00 Pt19=1122184.00,6497620.00,0.00 Pt20=1124724.00,6500300.00,0.00 Pt21=1127727.00,6501375.00,0.00 Pt22=1132747.00,6502735.00,0.00 Pt23=1137707.00,6503995.00,0.00 Pt24=1142227.00,6504835.00,0.00 Pt25=1144877.50,6505268.00,0.00 Pt26=1147237.50,6505708.00,0.00 Pt27=1149457.50,6506548.00,0.00 Pt28=1151817.50,6507728.00,0.00 Pt29=1153149.75,6508653.00,0.00 Pt30=1155309.75,6510213.00,0.00 Pt31=1155909.75,6511093.00,0.00 Pt32=1156589.75,6512093.00,0.00 Pt33=1156989.75,6512793.00,0.00 Pt34=1158649.75,6515313.00,0.00 Pt35=1159169.75,6516273.00,0.00 Pt36=1159829.75,6516913.00,0.00 Pt37=1160452.50,6517171.00,0.00 Pt38=1161792.50,6517751.00,0.00 Pt39=1166632.50,6518551.00,0.00 Pt40=1167632.50,6519091.00,0.00 Pt41=1169472.50,6522271.00,0.00 Pt42=1170484.88,6522840.00,0.00 Pt43=1172104.88,6523600.00,0.00 Pt44=1175484.88,6525200.00,0.00 Pt45=1178824.88,6526660.00,0.00 Pt46=1181664.88,6526680.00,0.00 Pt47=1182564.88,6526520.00,0.00 Pt48=1183990.88,6526480.50,0.00 Pt49=1185950.88,6526220.50,0.00 Pt50=1189950.88,6524480.50,0.00 Pt51=1191731.09,6523564.43,0.00 Pt52=1193504.88,6522787.50,0.00 Pt53=1193618.50,6522703.50,0.00 Pt54=1194126.88,6522740.00,0.00 Pt55=1198774.38,6522750.00,0.00 Pt56=1199755.88,6522910.00,0.00 Pt57=1203499.75,6524610.00,0.00 Pt58=1208697.88,6524630.00,0.00 Pt59=1211078.13,6525390.00,0.00 Pt60=1213138.13,6525400.00,0.00 Pt61=1216613.25,6524780.00,0.00 Pt62=1219813.25,6524250.00,0.00 Pt63=1220323.25,6523590.00,0.00 Pt64=1219838.25,6522393.50,0.00 Pt65=1219443.25,6521968.50,0.00 Pt66=1219108.25,6521852.50,0.00 Pt67=1218752.25,6521884.50,0.00 Save the map-file and after loading SH3, it should now look like this: ![]() and you will have points all the way into Kiel harbour with nose pointed at home quay ![]() The reason for me using time on this, is I know I'll have Kiel as homebase for a long time still. Probably will use Wilhemshaven some times as a refuel station, but the next couple of year Kiel it is... Btw. thanks for the great pictures! Looking forward to meet "Big Sister" in the Canal ![]() Re. GWX, a quick calculation shows that - with my current speed - I'm ready for it in august 2008... ![]() |
