the English voices pisses me off...it sound to me like a cheap bugget voice recording and the voices are too neutral.

I understand german very well because I,m dutch so.

Also I like the german voices when you're in danger
it really gives you the feeling that you are in danger.

LOL funny i always thoguht the same about English. I could rarely pick out the voice inflection with the german. One thing that irriates the hell out of me on the german voices is it takes them two sentences to say what can be said in english in one sentence.

At anyrate, this was NOT MEANT AS A CRITIQUE of the voice acting in itself, only a question of which one was better implemneted from a game mechanics standpoint.

For an example with made up numbers:

Does german voice's have 20 events that it's coded to respond to, and english have 15 events that it will respond to?

THAT is the core question.

Hmmm . . .

English: Depth charges in the water Sir!
German: Wesbubble! (sic) (Yah, I know, I've no idea how to spell it!)

I mean more like the sonar man. It's just this huge jumble of something thati can't identify what he's saying. I can read it in english, but alot of times i like to direct my attention to other things and its just easier if he sounds off and i can understand him.

back on topic, i think i answered my own question.

If you look closely at the file count in the individual voice directories, their not the same.

i think all but one of the german voice directoires has about 1,101 sound files. The english one has like 1,115 to 1,143 or something like that. It varies, and at least one of the sound directories is missing sound files. IE, some sounds are avialalbe to some voice actor but not to the other. For example, "Not enough crew in diesal engine compartment" doesnt exist for english sound directory 1, while it exists in some of the other ones.

:rotfl: I'm not sure of the exact spelling myself, but if you say "wasserbomb" you'll realize exactly what it means-"water bomb".

The only time I've ever had the English voices on was when I had to reload the game and forgot to change it before I started.

I`ve never used the english sounds, since german voices in a german boat adds amounts to the feel of the game. (I know what they say by now, since I have english "subtitles")

Actually, the choice of german is great, not all games gives you this option. I once dreamt of what Rome: Total War would be like if the spoke latin. Oh, that would be so cool.

it would be a little weird if in SHIV that you can choose german voices in an US submarine.

I think 95% of the replies in this post, totally missed the point.
