IIRC correctly there should be another group out there anyway with the carrier
But when you are more than 30km ( ? ) away the game will respawn the ships you sunk
Even if you sailed on and stayed with the Bismark you would get the message as it an automatic message sent at a set time - whether its sunk or not

Cheers guys...that pretty much answers my query and explains why I get the 'Bismarck Sunk' message even tho I've destroyed the enemy and still have the Bismarck in visual range

Default Bismarck's Revenge

Well as I mentioned previously, I sank the two battleships prior to their reaching the point of encounter with the Bismarck. I saved the patrol at that point, so I was able to reload the patrol. I proceeded to go watch the fireworks and hang around to see what happens. The Bismarck does indeed sail in a circle and remain even after the message appears that it's been sunk. The second task force also appears northwest of the area heading east.

I reloaded the patrol and this time headed southeast at flank speed instead of watching the encounter. Doing this allowed me to be in a position to intercept the task force which appears, heads east for a while before turning south. It turned out to consist of a Revenge and an Illustrious carrier. I sank them both.

This was a great patrol and the largest tonnage I've ever tallied. Prior to the Bismarck encounter, I had already hit two other task forces and a large convoy. This is the result of my patrol....

1st Task Force
1 King George (2 torps)
1 Revenge (2 torps)

1st Enemy Convoy (had to use up my deck gun ammo to manage this)
5 Large Tankers (1 torp each to the stern followed by deck gun if necessary)
2 Corvettes (deck gun)
1 Black Swan (1 torp)

2nd Task Force
1 Illustrious (2 torps)

3rd Task Force (Bismarck)
1 King George (2 torps)
1 Nelson (2 torps)

4th Task Force (Post Bismarck)
1 Revenge (2 torps)
1 Illustrious (2 torps)

5th Task Force (heading back to port)
1 Nelson (1 torp - critical hit)

Obviously a bit over the top in terms of realism but it was fun. I think I had at least two other critical hits on the capital ships. I've learned where to hit them over the past year or so.

For those of us to lazy to look it up, whats the approximate Grid where the final battle takes place? And is the battle in Denmark straits also included?

I've just started a new patrol from Lorient now, and seeing as it's the 2. May '41 now it might be fun to head over to one (or both if I can manage it timewise) places and see what happends.

The battle takes place in the northeast corner of BE53. Something I picked up on but was too far away to make the intercept is the battle between the Bismarck and the Hood west of Iceland. If you can get out there before the 20th, you should be able to witness the exchange. A message hints at this on May 22nd or 23rd I believe. If you go there, you will likely not make it back to the Bismarck encounter point in time but what the heck. The next campaign I play, I will definitely make sure I go out there.

I'm wondering if you manage as I did to protect the Bismarck and change the outcome, does the sim sends another task force to finish the job. If so, it's conceivable that a player could repeatedly succeed in sinking the big capital ships until all torpedoes have been spent. I'm going to test this theory tonight.

The message is just a text radio script, with timed based triggers. They have zero effect on the game, just for ambiance.

Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\campaigns\campaign

filename messages_en.txt
or
messages_de.txt, depends if you are in english or German.

Either open the file and edit out what you don't want, or delete the file. You'll still get the convoy messages, those come from somewhere different.

Danke. I'll prob go watch the Hood sink first then restart the patrol to get front row tickets to the end battle then
