:rotfl:What a coincidence! I watches Das Boot again last night, and I actually love it more know, as it is far more interesting when you have played SH3 a bit.

I agree that that film should be watched in german with subtitles, and also that whoever hasn`t seen it get the long version. (216 minutes)

This movie really makes resupplying in Vigo alot more fun.

Awesome film, and one of the largest grossing foreign (non Hollywood) films of all time.

Leaves you feeling exhausted afterward though.

After watching Das Boot in German, I actually switched to German voice overs in SH3 since English sounded wrong.

Its actually an interesting study in the cultures of the time to...

1.) Watch it in english with the english dub overs..

then

2.) Watch it in german with the subtitles.

There are some glaring differences in the way some subject matter is viewed.

Very good idea - maybe not purchase, but watch.
I recommend you to watch uncut version, much longer than stock or director's cut.
Really must have for SH3 players.

If there was no Das Boot then would there be a Silent Hunter III? :hmm: I think not. Am I right or wrong?

I don't think SHIII would be as popular a game without Das Boot, since most of us in here have seen the movie at least a Gazillion times or more. I really wish they would make a new version of it. Call it "Das Boot 2: The Reporter's Revenge"

The plot for it:

The reporter guy at the end of the first Das Boot movie gets really pissed off that Kaleun gets killed by the British planes so he runs off and steals another U-boat with the help of his 5 magical friends (Spanky, Clanky, Chef, Gaybody, and Bernard), as they set sail for British blood and earn their place in the 100K club Hall of Fame with a single VIIC on one patrol.

I have the director's cut and watch it in German with subtitles and play SHIII with German voices, much more immersive. Then again maybe it's my German blood sneaking out.

Yes, I've bought the long version whilst I was in Europe. It includes signed photographs as well

Well fellow kaleuns, I put the DVD in my stand-alone DVD player and it spit it back out, tried again: same thing. So I put it in my puters NEC DL writer and it didn't even recognize the disc. Back to the video store, dude tried it on their equipment and same thing. The only other copy was rented, so they gave me credit.

They did have a copy on VHS - English dubbed (yuck!). So Das Boot will have to wait.
