My cousin Tommy has a ranch outside of Austin and he uses an AR type rifle chambered for 6.5mm Creedmoor. I'm not sure what brand his night vision gear is but you'd want to use a thermal imaging sight in that situation.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking I might just see how the bolt action .308 that I already own does. Maybe some helmet mounted night vision.

You can pick up a nice ATN scope used for around $300+
Haven't check prices since I sold mine. Very nice Units once you learn them. .308 is more then enough. There's people dropping them with Air Guns in Texas! |

If you’re looking for an inexpensive rifle look at Diamond Back firearms you can pick up a DB 15 for around $700 cabbages. Nice thing about that you can find 5.56 and .223 dang near everywhere and will fit a lot of different optics. |

So what does a hog hunting helmet look like anyways? Inquiring minds want to know! ![]()

But can you see your gun sights with that thing on? It doesn't help to see the your prey if you can't aim at them.

I guess I would also add monocular NVG can cause a helluva lot of eye strain. And whether they be mono or binocular when you turn them off you wont be able see squat out one or both eyes until they adjust to natural night vision. Last edited by Rockstar; 05-05-24 at 04:28 PM. |

I'm not sure, it's what my friends seem to think they'll need. I've only ever been trapping before, and I was just along for the ride way back then.

I'm finding myself oddly attracted to a weapon I wouldn't have thought I'd be fond of being more of a traditionalist - the new S&W M&P FPC. Maybe it's because I live much more in my van now, or because I already have an M&P pistol. https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/fpc
![]() It just came out in 40 S&W in November too. ![]() ...or maybe my attraction is because there are some incredibly unhinged people driving around on the roads. lol
