1. Install SH3Cmdr as per instructions
2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder where you installed SH3Cmdr
3. Click on the Cfg sub-folder
4. Delete (or rename) the seven "Randomised events_19**.cfg" files
5. Backup "Randomised events.cfg" (optional, but recommended)
5. Open "Randomised events.cfg"
6. Find the lines beginning
Code:
;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------MALFUNCTION SETTINGS
[Mal0:data\Library\GUNS_SUB.sim]
and delete inclusively until the end of the file.
7. Save and close "Randomised events.cfg"

Malfunctions/effect of sabotages gone!

No I don't think it makes a difference in the game.

Default New Computer Woes

I just got SHIII installed on my new computer. Of course as soon as I hit open water I did a crash dive. Boy did I uncover an embarassment. I forgot to change the language settings and the whole crew was yelling in english. I was so ashamed I wanted to turn around and head for the barn. :rotfl:

It's funny how different people see the sim. Some see it as a "Game". I like to view it as a U-Boat Simulation.

It may not matter in "game sense", but real U-Boats did practice Crash Dives, Weapons Drills, and So on. A U-Boat had to do a Trim Dive Everyday! So to immulate reality I do all of those.

Otto Kretschmer's procedure was to do dive everyday for two hours before dawn. It gave the crew a break, trimmed the boat, and let them search for sound contacts. I do the samething and it has actually paid off in finding single merchants. (I dont use single merchant map contacts)

I guess it depends on how much you like to reenact historical situations, or just pop in a "Game".l

Not much of a point really. Boat behaves the same regardless, exception being bad weaither. Only reason for drills is when your first learning the game, or checking out a new adjustment/tweak/mod to see what you can and can't do. Once you learn the constants, the only variable is you.

In WaW since i started running SH3 2.6 i use drills to test if anything is wrong with the boat. i.e stuck dive planes, broken rudders (slow turn rate), battery leaks (fast depleting batteries), slower dive times, etc.. It adds a lot of realism.

It seems we have two factions of players: Those who like Historical Realism vs Those Who Just want to Play a Game.

Oh i know enough about WW2 subs, so don't even go there. I don't do anything (even if i know it to be historically accurate or within submarine tactics of the timer period) unless the game forces me to. Why should i? There is simply no reason to run practice drills in Sh3 because there is no reason for it. Nothing is modled to facilitate any need. ****, minor detals like the radar antenas arent even mounted in the right place! The boat doesnt even crash dive at the correct angle! Or you never noticed?

So Sure you can dunk your boat off and on all the way to your patrol area, but the only reason your donig it, is so you feel warm and fuzzy and "in character" in some sense of roleplay, but there is no pratical need for it.

Like anything in this game, if theres a need, i will do it, but if theres no need then i won't. Simple as that. It has nothing to do with desire for historical accuraccy or gameyness. If you want to talk about simulator vs gameyness i can sit here all day citing small little details that Sh3 breaks in the realm of historical accuracy. Where would you like to begin? I know, how about the non existant compressed CO2 usage? Gee, how in the hell can i fire all those torpedos, and never have to recharge the air flasks.. Pretty nifty trick that. Or maybe the fact that you cant control starboard and port diesals independantly? The fuel gauges are broke in the IX and XXI interiors. Radar antennas i already mentioned. You can't tune into the merchant radio band and hear SoS calls. Dont even get me started on the craptastic AI, which thankfully is *almost* but not quite, (and probably never will be completely) resolved. I think i can stop there.

So the point to this little rant is this:
There isnt just two types of SH3 players. So don't attempt even sit there on some highground insinuating that all some people want is another shooter. If you want realism, SH3 is the closest to it, but it still misses the mark by a longshot.

Ducimus if u used sabotage/malfunctions mod then it is very helpful. But otherwise there is NO practical use, unless ur a hardcore realism addict dipping into character

In the Reenacting/Living History World we would call you a FARB.
