I noticed after firing several fish in the Sargo that the small torpedo icons on the upper left at periscope were not all the same. At least one was showing an electric fish but I have all Mk 14. I have also noted that an upgrade issue still exist like in the last version. This occured on the Tambor August 1942. This issue allows you to enter port and you can go into the upgrades and the 20mm I added before the last patrol is back to being a .50 again so you have to add it back. Not only that but after leaving the game and then loading the exact same point a new upgrade appears that was not there just 2 minutes earlier. Improved Air Search radar. Since there was no cost to either I see no problem but I did find it rather odd that it is occurring.

OK Immelmann, I built me a six ship convoy in 3 columns of 2, 42km away from me at the start of a single mission. I would make sonar contact at about the 30 minute mark into the mission, and zoom out to their location and "film" them cruising. I'll have to process and post that. I did 0 knot wind & 5 knot wind with no issues whatsoever. At 10 knots you can see several ships struggling, but my sub was struggling also. I went ahead and attacked the convoy every time through (roughly 1'15" in), and at the 10 knot mission, one hit caused them headway issues, but they all stayed afloat. One big ship lost its engine, so it was easy to catch. None of the others were. At 12knots, one of the smaller ships that was fine at 10 knots with one hit, now sank with one hit. It did take a while, like 45 minutes. My sub performed awful when on the surface. I then got bored and did 15 knot winds, and my gosh, I could barely catch the convoy. In fact, the sonar was not very good either in those seas. The ships were coming out of the water, though still looking good, like in heavy seas, though you could see the European freighter was having a time of it keeping convoy formation. Again, one hit on it took it down - well, three hits actually... the first two were duds. If I feel like it later, I've got a video of chasing down the Shinsu Maru, shooting a torp at it with about a 15° gyro angle, and it turned into a 30° turn and circled over my boat several times. Ahead flank, crash dive from PD and turned the rudder 20 degrees to starboard, and it passed over me twice. Thankfully, I was using impact, otherwise the first one would have had me no doubt, unless like cdrsubron7 says "Torpedo is a dud sir"...
Anyway, while the ships seem to lumber a bit more than seems reasonable at 12 knots, and they do go down easier, I'm thinking that there was a bad spawn involved in what you saw, Immelmann. I did several run throughs of the mission at 12 & 15 knots, and all runs of the scenario, and ship did not sink unless a torpedo exploded in it. btw, that Medium Combifreighter got away from me every run... |

Narwhal Observations
Twenty one days into the second patrol, my Nautilus campaign would no longer load. Don't know why. I changed graphics to lowest resolution and level and used the "Large Address Aware.exe", to no avail.

Sea Battle
FOTRSU v0.81: 11/13/1942 approximately 1:00 am; 8.5 Nm NW Savo Island - 2 ISO BB's plus a large escort vs. a good number of Allied ships. It was fun to watch (via camera). Aircraft damaged both ISO's so after a bit I crept near in S-36, put 2 MK10 in the bow of each one - both exploded and sank - must have hit their respective magazines - and we got credit for 2 warships and 64,000 tons.
Btw, my "reward" on return to Brisbane was a choice to become an instructor at Annapolis or continue. Just to see what would happen, I first chose the teaching assignment. Crappy ending. So I tried again this time choosing to stay with my boat. My "reward" was a transfer to the Aleutians in my same S boat! This after six successful patrols, all objectives met, over 200K tons of shipping and warships. Was never offered a new boat or any upgrades to my boat execpt for a 20mm AA gun, and a deck gun with no crew slots. That was a pissy career for sure. Maybe I bitched too much about the lousy MK14's, even though I never had them on my boat.

Second mission was insert agent, which succeeded. Was given a 5 day patrol area mission and then goto location and sink shipping. Sank 29,550 tons shipping. Twenty one days into mission, ran out of torpedoes and started home. Next time I played, would not load. Sad. Changed graphics after load failure. Did not use LL until after failure to load.
